[Edit] Got the touchplate working fairly decent. I could see using it over a standard patch to play in chirps, burbles, and filter changes in relative time. Definitely adds a second dimension to the Grack (still prefer patching and morphing through the knobs).

Aye. There are no more for now. I plan to redesign it some day for a more efficient manufacturing process. I did not anticipate there being as much interest as there has been and handwiring them is no longer practical.

Gotten some inquiries about these and just wanted to set the record straight... Menq Qi developed his touch controller completely on his own. He's never seen schematics for the Grackler. I can't comment on how well it works because I've never used one. I like Menq Qi and he did contact me to inform me that he was selling these, but Caveat Emptor: It is not my product and I do not endorse it.

Also, I have a new instrument available now called Trzypsy. It is an evolved version of my old Horndog instrument.
It's for those of you who found the Grackler to be too predictable and knobby. :tu:
You can read about it here: http://mroztronium.blogspot.com/p/trzypsy.html

Repeater : I just listened to your video and it does sound really good.

Would you be open to the idea of people being able to diy it?

It could be like the benjolin, you only share the pcb layout, schematic, parts layout, and you don't allow people to sell pcbs (i am personally not a fan of this idea but it is better than nothing) so people etch them themselves. If you don't want to offer support you create a build thread and let people help each other in there.

I don't think you would loose any sales, as for some people out there the building process is part of the experience and they wouldn't buy an already built instrument anyway. It only contributes to have more of them out there, in my opinion :)

It's just a suggestion, but i think that would be awesome :)

I am currently working on some DIY instruments and love traveling to teach small group workshops. Most of the DIY stuff I'm working on is more on the scale of things that can be made in a workshop in a few hours.

I don't think a DIY version of a more complicated instrument like the Grackler is feasible for me yet. We'll see how things go.

Just a heads-up, there's a dude in Florida who's selling his Grackler for $750.

Hi, I'm trying to help a friend who has a 200e, in order not to fry digital components, I want to be sure of all outputs voltages. I don't have access to a grackler, i'll be really grateful if someone knows step values, square values etc...if someone has one near Paris we can watch it with my scope also.

Hi. All outputs are in the range of 0-9V. CV inputs can take anything 200e spits out. Filter ins and outs are AC coupled and should work fine with the relatively low output levels from 200e stuff.

I think this was a joke about how Mroztronium devices sound more like the actual Forbidden Planet soundtrack than they sound like synthesizers, but Raub asked for an intriguing chaotic patch and here it is:

One orange -> one lower blue
One grey -> other lower blue
Other orange -> one upper blue
Other grey -> other upper blue
XORs -> filter inputs

Start with low osc rates, low cross mod levels and low filter input levels. This will give you a combination of "smooth & stepped" modulation of the filters and evolving alien marimba filter pings.

Trzypsy and New Unusual Oscillator are better equipped for making Forbidden Planet sounds. The Barrons probably didn't use State-Variable Filters or voltage control, but they sure loved chaotic anomalies and so do I.

I spoke with Martin (@repeater) a few weeks ago directly!
He said:

“Hi,

Okay, you're on the email list!

I'll keep a stock list updated on my site once these go live and then they can just be ordered whenever with minimal lead time. I used to have a waiting list in the past and built instruments to order, but it just slowed things down for everyone. I plan to produce these as long as people want them so hopefully everyone who wants one will be able to get one.

The new Gracklers are a refinement of the original design that do all the old stuff, but with new CV features and some updates to the filters. Details will be sent out to the email list and go up on the site.”

Excited.. I was trying to get one from B/S/T.

Don't think I've ever seen a grackler for sale since they were discontinued. Always regretted not getting one while they were being produced
