Yes but you can also do the one instrument per key thing as well. It’s called multi mode I believe. It took a second to set up but I love having all my drum instruments on different tracks just for the sake of muting, and being able to play the pitch with the keyboard while I’m sequencing is awesome too.

is there a way to split it up at all? ideally, i would like the kick, mbrane, and clap on their own ck tracks and the just program the rest on a single p3 track. or does it not quite work like that?

I was wrong about multi mode, thats for using different instruments stored in different kits, but check out this bit of the manual:

On channel 16, the Alpha Base offers a key mapping for all instruments. Each
instrument maps 4 notes on the keyboard. The pitch is added according to the 4 notes

So heck yeah, you can split it up. I'll have to give it a try, lots of times I do want to group a couple instruments on one track and have always just used the individual channels.

Works great, just had to add a 12th instrument to Cirklon lol. I have them arranged as “alpha.xxx” so they’re at least all grouped together. Thanks for the idea.

Would certainly buy one Alpha Base, the only thing that bugs me a bit is the weird decision to limit sample playback to 48Khz 16bit, such a weird decision. If he was gonna limit then it would have been better 44Khz 16bit, 99% of sample packs out there are in this format, would avoid the hassle of converting every single thing, that is annoying. This unit is not like OLD, it should have the capability to reproduce a couple of different sample rates. This is software related, right? If he wanted to, he could upgrade it to play other sample rates.

Would be nice to be able to load some basslines/ bass hits with 88.2Khz 24bit quality.

did you or anyone here find a way to work around this? is there an app or program that will convert them for you in bulk?

also, maybe i missed something in the manual, but is there a way to mass delete a huge portion of the factory samples? thanks in advance.

Yep I use MediaHuman which is free, fast and effective but there are plenty of others. https://www.mediahuman.com/

any chance you know of a way to mass dump samples onto the AB?

You can dump whole folders at a time. Push disk and then push left once and you can select the folder to load, then push right until it says flash=ent. Hit enter and then it will start at the target number and load every sample in that folder.

The function I love most about my BSP and Impact are the four ratchet keys (1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32). Can you set up something similar on the Alpha, or does it require menu diving?

i havent used the internal sequencer too much but can replicate ratchets on the AB using both my cirklon and TR8S.

Not necessarily ratcheting, but you can get some really cool glitchy stuff automating the delay inside of it.

Not even fully read the manual yet and this thing is seriously grooving! I not sure I understand people’s complaints about the UI , it’s very straightforward to use
