...super nice synth, if waldorf follows its own footsteps we will have a low cost version without analog filters in 2 years :guinness:

I’ve been cruising for a wavetable poly for some time. Really lusting for an old PPG, but this looks pretty amazing. I’m in!

I know there are digital filters in there... that's what I was getting at. Decreased cost with no analog components.

well hot damn.
$4.5K is rather steep but if it's as titties as advertised, then it may be worth flogging the OB-Xa for, and/or perhaps even the Sunsyn.

Nice to see Waldorf go for it at long last. OS please be reasonably sorted prior to shipping!
The ability to muck with the sound from all those angles in one hardwired setup, with all that memory, could reeeeally get some nice things done.

I'm guessing that polyphony gets cut in half in dual mode? The main thing I'm worried about is abrupt voice cutoff on longer decays. Of course 12 (or 16...or 24...or) voices would have been nicer, but with 6 EGs & LFOs and 'stereo oscillators' it won't be in JP-8 land for long.

This thing seems to have nearly unlimited possibilities. About the only limit I can think of is that its only 8 voices. Looking forward to it nonetheless...

 The Ableton Wavetable sounds pretty weak to me. Serum sounds better than this. But both still have a softy sound to them. Besides people are buying the Quantum for the interface plus features. As long as softsynths are tethered to a computer, they'll never be a replacement for a hardware experience for many reasons.

(Edited to be clear)

Took me a sec to realize you were referring to Ableton Wavetable, not the Quantum. I agree, Serum is still the king for me with soft synths.

I think the Quantum examples I heard sound great.

While they both produce sound, there is a lot of difference between a soft synth and a hardware synth. Even if digital.
It's apples and oranges.

(I use softsynths often, I just don't think the features of XYZ softsynth are really salient in a discussion of hardware)

Yeah, definitely refering to Ableton Wavetable.

I think the Quantum demos are promising and I see a ton of potential with it. :sb:

Agreed. Comparing softsynths to hardware just doesn't work. Different experience regardless of what anyone thinks of the sound.

I hope my employment situation continues to remain stable.
I could see talking myself into this synth as my birthday present to myself at the end of this year.
(I'm gonna be super duper extra old)

I've listened to every clip I could find of the QUANTUM, and really thinking seriously about getting one!
The sampling option is such a nice touch! I hope DSI takes notice...

It sort of looked from the camera angle like you were wearing some 90s rave pants, so he was asking if you were wearing 90s rave pants.

:cat: dang, this thing sounds so nice!

:hmm: the OP ought to rename the thread title so it includes 'Quantum' (e.g. 'Quantum - A New Waldorf 8 Voice Hybrid Poly').

cheers

100% full blown niceness. If I only had the money...
A tad too expensive for me right now, but I guess it could be a keeper for life

Looking around at the various 'pay as you play' options from Sweetwater and others. It would be nice to demote my Novation SL MKII from it's status as my main keyboard. It's just a fracking controller! My main keyboard should be a synth!
I've really been getting in depth lately with Waldorf's PPG3V and Arturia's CMI-V. So I am amenable to a big digital beast.

So after a major delay in shipping to USA, the Quanta are starting to trickle in. Got mine yesterday, and a brief test drive left me quite impressed with its potential, although quite frankly I haven’t yet found anything that my now-departed Access Virus TI2 didn’t do. But again, I’ve only played with some of the presets, many of which also sound like my beloved Wave. This thing is deep, and a final verdict will take me, perhaps, months.
It is one gorgeous instrument, though. Elegant looking.
Noisemakers: Maracas. Squeaky shoes. Bean-induced flatulence.
