Behringer made a hames of this one, likely because they were afraid Roland would complain, but I think they played too safe in that regard. It would have been very simple to make it a 100% clone. A shame considering how excellent the Model D is.
I personally doubt the changes were to satisfy Roland, considering they rip off the visual style so much. I think it's instead that they didn't want to put the effort into recreating the actual sequencer behavior. The hardware design is easier to copy since it's explicit in the service manual of each synth.

Well, basically it's the same sequencer available in their Crave and Odyssey, so more like staying in the same line for the sake of consistency and cutting on R&D...

Feeling all alone and constantly attacked for not being rubbery enough the lonely 101 calls on his synth buddies to help him build a mega Bassline :hihi:

Also likely. They could have included the original glide behaviour at least.

Slight amount of glide with saw + lots of resonance = it literally meows

No rubbery squelch, just nice deep 101 Bass :tu:

Also used the nice strings on the VC340

You should learn to actually play your gear (keyboards by hand) instead of sequencing everything. That sounded like midifile playing back.

I can play it thanks and do so for each video. I deliberately quantised that one as that’s how Vince Clarke rolls.

And as a side note I see you’re STILL a small time cunt! Must be shit being you.

Ok I'll give you that I thought that was a really funny comeback and made me laugh :hihi:

Edited as I was a bit mean spirited. :despair:

loopop delivers the goods

Would have loved to hear him do the nice jam at the end on the MS instead of the SH but I failed half the listening test so what do I know

that was a very good comparison, thanks!

he didn't delve into the glide much though, which I think is the biggest diff?

Yeah, not a very good comparison.

I'd rather see examples that could pull off stuff like in tracks such as Flow Coma, or anything else that really shows of the 101/202's rubbery "meow" sound.

The magic is not just the glide behaviour, it's also that it slews the filter, not just the notes.

Try and replicate this for example ;)

Ran the MS-101 output through the Pioneer DJS-1000 and DJM-900NXS2 Mixer.

Sequenced by the Toraiz squid , using Transpose, Arp,Direction changes and Rhythmic control.

Then it was just a case of tweaking knobs and adding fx etc on the fly.

That should happen when Keyboard Track is turned up in the filter section. Does it not work like that on the Behringer? I don't have one, just wondering.

I do hear a difference in filter resonance...the MS just doesn't quite nail that sound when you turn it up on the SH, which is essential. I feel like the Bass Station II gets much closer, but still not exact.

Yes, but the glide behaviour is different on the MS101, making the above a lot more difficult to pull off. I don't think it glides the filter either.

I wonder if somebody will figure out how to mod the thing, to be more accurate?

how complicated is the filter circuit, and can you get to the parts easily on the MS?

I have no idea, it could be so nice to be able to install a Roland IR3109 inside..

Me too. Aren't the Behinger PCB and components much smaller than the originals?

The original was through-hole, and I would be shocked if the Behringer wasn't SMD. So, yes.
