Re: Mystery Moog - Subharmonicon?

After all this time a production version of the Subharmonicon is the last thing I expected from Moog, though it would be most welcome.

With the new polyrhythm section, PWM and MIDI-in jack, it looks like more than just a rearrangement of the Moogfest panel has taken place. I suppose it will be around £600 in the UK.

How about moving this thread to General Gear to join the M-32 and DFAM? Maybe a merge? Previous thread here:

This may be going forward after all, though Moog hasn't confirmed anything as yet:

Some patchbay differences, Moogfest version on left:

Yes! So it is happening after all.
This to me is the SFAM.
Am really looking forward to hearing some sounds that show off the evolved concept. Am guessing that that need (evolving the concept) combined with other product launches lead to the long time between the engineering workshop version and what we are seeing now. Hope it's launched soon.

I put this together last night for a quick comparison between the Moogfest Edition and presumably production layout.

Highlights I noticed so far:
  • Saw, Square, or Both waveform selectors for main VCOs
  • Sub2 pitch inputs replaced with PWM input
  • Proper Attack knob instead of 3-position switches on EGs
  • Digital sequencer controls with more digital functions like octave selection and quantize
  • TRS MIDI input (replaces tempo control input)
  • Redesigned sequencer assignment section near oscillators
  • Redesigned clock divider section ("sub" sequencer)
  • Bigger knobs for oscillator mixers

I will be interested to hear more of this-- specifically how useful it would be with an M32 and a DFAM. I think subharmonics is kind of a neat trick, but for me the most compelling feature here are the sequences.

I am sure there is a lot of cool territory to explore making sort of chords that evolve and develop into intricate patterns with this.

I sold my M32 since I don´t find it "special" enough to share the rack with the DFAM, but I think this would be a killer companion for it.

This and a DFAM will be super dope. Something to look forward to down the road.

Surely it will be a very similar price point to Mother 32/DFAM?

Looks like the 12-ET. 8-ET, 12-JI, and 8-JI are 12- or 8-note equal temperament or just intonation tunings.

Audio Solutions in France just published this.

Moog Subharmonicon. €819. May 12th.

Nice one, Afturmath. Audio Solutions's €819 is about £720, which is a bit more than the DFAM and Mother-32 but not significantly so. Most likely my next purchase.

As an aside, like everyone else I was surprised (and gratified) when Moog revisited the -32 firmware after almost five years. I should have realised further developments were afoot...

Interesting price point..... I'm wondering if they are jumping the gun here by this? Isn't there supposed to be an official release? Or did the official release happen while I was sleeping? I mean, it's been leaked... so,.... (shrug)
