Fingers crossed for you dude. Hopefully a loose connection.

...course that's a prototype so potentially nothing wrong too.
Cheers man. I've just send a mail to SOMA. I'll report back on how it goes.

First thoughts after an hour or so. Wow, mental machine, love it very cool.

Re. The SD/Clap thing I’m pretty sure mine is the same so guessing that’s design. If you use the sensor to trigger you can get the SD and the clap with the attack spreading wider so that at extreme settings you don’t hear the clap for a few seconds. The trigger in (I’ve not tried midi) seems to just trigger the SD. I think.
That said, I can’t think of many situations where I’d want the delayed clap thing; it makes it sound a bit weird but horses for courses I guess. There is certainly a bucket load of sound variability in the SD/CP channel even with the trigger vs sensor difference. Will be keen to hear back.
My BD seems consistent though. Again, I think. Need to explore more.
Can’t explain the wild sounds you can get though. Very fun

Thanks for that gosh. I really don't care for a consistent bd in this machine but with the snare/clap thing on top of that I started wondering if there's maybe a bit more wrong with mine. Good to hear that's apparently by design.

I'm not exactly sure how to embed soundcloud stuff here but I've uploaded two bits from sessions I've done.

Cheers but neither of these are Pulsar only. I guess "mainly Pulsar" would be a good description. There's a Peak involved in weird80s. TT303 and SEM in the electrojam bit plus DRMIII for extra drums in both.

Abstractly I'm sad about this clap thing though.

Again thinking purely in the abstract as i don't have a pulsar yet: Could it be that the clap knob actually interacts with the sequencer, like introducing a flam and therefore you could do a similar thing with an external sequencer?

That sounds logical but it flams also with just touching the pad on the channel.

Got a reply back from SOMA very early this morning (maybe a bit too early for them ;-). The BD thing with changing attack is normal. The Clap issue I think the guy misunderstood me, apparently thinking that the complete channel didn't trigger. I've replied with a further explanation and haven't heard back yet.

Now it seems a bit like I'm concentrating on these "issues" but really, it's about 0,0001% less fun to use now then with the clap pot working as I'd expect it.

This thing rocks so hard. I'm sure you'll be totally satisfied when it arrives Bobby. Hope you'll get it soon!

At the moment I'm mostly salivating while trying different connections/modulation possibilities on quite a bland drumpattern. Not much to share yet I'm afraid.

I'm sequencing it with a external sequencer because firstly, I've a shitty feel for rythm and secondly, I'm not ready yet to dive in the manual recording mode.

Two things that were a bit unexpected and I don't know if it should work like this:
- With attack at 0 the BD won't have a consistent attack, let's say 12,13 out of 16 BD's have the very fast attack and then a couple haven't.
- The Clap pot on the SD channel doesn't work when triggered by midi (it does work when triggering manually).

I must say these aren't biggies. For instance; I'll be modulating the shit out of the sounds so don't need a consistent BD.

The Pulsar seems like the ideal companion for the Vermona DRM (which does have amazing sounds but doesn't do modulation). These two (plus my Eurorack percussion setup) will keep me going for the rest of my life I think.
So I just tested out the clap and here is my discovery:
It DOES work via midi but the velocity of the midi note HAS to be 113 or higher. LOWER than that only triggers the snare.

It's actually pretty cool with you think about it. When working with MIDI you can basically program in the clap effect independently of the snare.

Velocity in general is VERY expressive on this and I recommend playing with it to get some feel for it. I hadn't noticed this snare/clap behavior before but I gotta say.. I love it!

Wow, excellent news chvad!

I did notice the very distinct effect of velocity and also note length but not this yet. Cheers!

Quick little Friday night jam.

Through a 100GRIT and Fusion Delay. Taking the trigger out from the kick to trigger an envelope that opens the filter and VCA on the 100GRIT.

FF velocity = sustain?

Post by blipson » Sat Mar 07, 2020 8:25 am

Does anyone get a sustained note when a module receives MIDI velocity FF=127? I thought I once read this somewhere, but now I can't find it. My BASS module reacts like that, at least in PRC mode, and I hope that's not a glitch. What I'd really like to do is disable that behavior if possible.

Some multi band processing of the Pulsar-23 using the Noise Engineering Seca Ruina.
