As has been said by many already, what a great time for synth lovers.

If it falls short for some, they'll survive I'm sure, but these will all be great tools for most?

I hope it sounds different from their other clones. In my opinion most of the clones they have done (K2, MS-1, Pro-1) all sound the same or pretty close. I played the MS-1 and K2 side by side and couldnt really hear a huge difference in the oscillators and filters.

My biggest issue with this is that they've "borrowed" all of the excellent enhancements and mods (and panel layout) made by jasonl for the Jasper: Gnat waveforms, VCO1/VCO2/Ext mixer, VCF notch mode, and hold switch.

As far as I can tell they are giving no credit to Jason (or even a sweeping credit to the SDIY community) for these things.

To be fair the Elby Pixie had similar mods 15 years ago.

Yes, true, some (but not all) of the mods originally appeared on the Pixie (which added some other things, too).

But the Behringer has taken the exact set of mods from the Jasper, as well as the panel layout.

Demo sounds awesome! I don't know the original that well... but I'd love to have this in my studio

I'm realising I'm not clever enough to understand why some copying is apparently honourable and other copying is close to heresy, but this demo sounds great.

Surprised how many sounds in the demo immediately reminded me of my OSCar - I'm also not that familiar with the Wasp but like the Pro-1, this works for me.

Only got the VC340 so far, but based on what I'm hearing I am definitely in for these two.

OSCar is from the same designer and has a similar architecture. That was the next synth he designed after the EDP stuff.

Overall

Post by globalwm » Sat Nov 23, 2019 10:35 am

On the quality point, I recently picked up a Neutron (couldn't resist at $212USD) and was impressed with the build quality so far. I also picked up a RD-8 and it appears t be built well also.

Someone needs to come up with a way to org all these little 3U boxes that are building up in my studio though.

[Impressed: A Behringer thread that hasn't degraded into uselessness - thank you.]

In the 1970/80s, it was called a 19" rack. :hihi:

Sounds great-that filter! I’d love it with more patch points ala the Neutron but the sounds warrants buying it (at least to my ears). This may have replaced the Pro 1 clone for me.

Didn't even know the Wasp existed. Did my research, and another neat thing comes into view that's available to try out.

Looks very interesting. Definitely want to see more reviews and hear more sounds.

Notch is rare on a mono and three lfo's is nice.

better than the official video, but I think he should turned off the reverb (or mention it in the description)

well all these vids are neat.
it does sound like an actual WASP.

the sole reason i ever wanted one was because of the noiz i heard WHITEHOUSE make with it.

i have a JASPER and it's amazing.
also have the Clacktronics WASP filter pedal.

being able to expand the voices with a few WASP generators all at once has my attention.

but again...i'll know that build quality once i am able to see one in person.

good to hear that the other stuff they are churning out has a good build!

It is too bad that they didn’t include the distinctive keyboard that the Wasp had.

Behringer (or someone else) needs to come up with a small keyboard / inclosure that you can mount one of these clones (Model D, Pro One, Wasp) or the Neutron into, as it would be nice to have a small complete synth to carry around, instead of having to worry about a separate controller box and cables.
For Sale/Trade: 14U 84 hp Euro case . Willing to trade towards MU Modules, Dotcom Box 11 case, and Moogerfooger and Minifooger pedals!

Rumor has it a keyboard version with the Behringer sequencer is incoming.

I cannot justify another monosynth...

You can get rack ears for the Behringers. Add an SKB and a KeyStep, and you'd have a portable setup.

behringer simply rocks with these clones especially for the unbeatable price they gave to them

they clearly had to change management or something because I love this new company strategy :)
