New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument
Redonculous new clone of the OB-X! Abstrakt were already cloning the cards, so great to see a standalone version finally out.

At least it's a "based on" and not a direct clone down to the font and UX

Also worth noting--pretty commendable all considering:
"Tom Oberheim of tomoberheim.com and Oberheim Electronics is aware of our plans to market an OB-X-centric synth. We asked permission and he did not have any reservations with our plans and said good luck! We have also offered a royalty per unit but there was no interest. However, even though the VS-1 is by nature a boutique offering and won't break any sales records, we will indeed be paying a royalty in deference to the original design."

Oof, today was rough. First the Pro 3 leak had me doubting my purchase of the Matriarch, until I realized Pro 3 doesn't have all those patch points or that glorious analog delay.
This, however, has made me feel like a fool for buying an OB-8. This thing's based on the thicker sounding OB-X, and then adds the other modes of the state variable filter, then comes in about a thousand bucks cheaper (although as a rack unit instead of a keyboard). At least the OB-8 has...triangle wave available on the VCOs and a 4-pole mode, and lets me use a DSX.
I'm still happy to see this, another player in the premium rack poly market alongside the Black Corporation instruments.

15 alt tunings...more info needed (full tuning on any key (ie not limited to 12 note octaves)? Editable on unit? MTS dump in/out?), but this could be my new poly.

That is a great thing to read and should be an industry standard for handling these kinds of things. They have a new fan!Sir Ruff wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 11:32 amAlso worth noting--pretty commendable all considering:

Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument
Wonderful rack module, stunning work.

Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument
the kit is pricey as kits go, but damned tempting - especially at the early-bird price of 900USD

Nice, but the horror stories on these Avalon’s gonna make me stay away

Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument
The only thing I'm aware of that's comparable is the Black Corp polysynths, and those kits PCB sets are also around 900 without the case and front panel.
My question is where am I supposed to get that many 3080s?
Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument
Idk, bunch of people posting their Avalon’s broke, super tough to get in touch to have them fixed or have to wait forever just from threads I’ve seen ...not firsthand experience

Hmmm, thanks. That's unfortunate. Obviously customer support will be crucial on something as complex as this.

The early bird ones are long gone. Even with a poke from some friends earlier today I missed it. Now the kits are 995$. (I still bought one)
Both synthcube and modularaddict have them.

Thankfully being decent is still appreciated by some...Divinital wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 1:49 pmThat is a great thing to read and should be an industry standard for handling these kinds of things. I criticize by creation and by finding fault

Backed this (DIY kit). Sounds very good and he's paying attention to all the right details (components, analogue envelopes etc.) If it makes the $160k goal, that chorus circuit could be very tasty.

Best sounding thing I've heard in ages.
Re: New Oberheim OB-X clone from Abstrakt Instrument
So many re-birth of vintage synths, without maintenance issues. Such a wonderful time we are in.

What is the connection between this and Old Crow's crOwBox?? The form-factor is so close, I assume that there's some connection?

None. Different folks and different designs. Old Crow’s cards were not 1:1 clones. His was also only DIY.
