It appears from the description to be an analog binaural frequency generator.
That's what I got from it too - and so signed up straight away!

I experimented with binaural frequencies a lot a few years back. I found they were excellent at helping sleep, masking external noise and promoting vivid dreams, depending on the frequencies. Strangely though I also found that the effect of each track I made seemed to wear off after about 6 months or so. Curious. I sent some of the tracks to a few friends who had very different reactions. One in particular got an instant light-headedness and felt 'drugged'; one thought they sounded very creepy; for another nothing at all. I've seen some commercial binaural sites make totally ridiculous claims and seem to have a different frequency for every particular wish or ambition you may have!

Anyway I have some of the tracks I made on my site as free downloads if anyone is interested.

I'm hoping (expecting) Vlad's new gizmo is always variable and so overcomes the odd "worn out" effect that static tracks had with me.

Err - his name is Vlad - Vlad Kreimer ? Head honcho & general genius at Soma. I know, because I bought a Lyra off him.

Soma products are great btw :) And I think he's awesome. :guinness:

He says in the doc that it's *not* a binaural thing. It appears to be an analog noise generator. 150 euros plus shipping and taxes for a diode and a transistor in a box--battery not included.

Well not binaural in the usual sense but it is in stereo. It is chaotic noise in stereo tuned to do "stuff". I'd like to try it but someone will have to upload a nice demo first. The in and out touch sensors are interesting.

Ok thanks for pointing that out. I since read this..

"FAQ: Is it based on binaural beats?
No, during the experiments, I was trying different types of modulations and at the end discarded them all. Pure analog noise gives the deepest immersing and allows you to discover the most variety of states and receiving information, while modulations apply limitations and establish boundaries though maybe make getting the first results faster. We can say that intended modulations are a kind of conceptual thinking, while raw chaos is zazen. So QO produces pure stereo noise with a special frequency shaping and subtle structure."

However the device is stereo and if it sends identical sounds to both left and right I don't see the effects being very powerful.

Hypnotists change the position of their heads slightly when saying certain embedded suggestions to take advantage of this.

Brainwave entrainment is said to stop if using the same program repeatedly,

So again I will speculate , it appears to be a binaural noise/chaos generator.

If correct this may well prevent the stopping of entrainment mentioned above and elsewhere.

It's a guess but I think stereo noise is being identified as pure awareness Zazen and that a possible chaos circuit (fuzzy logic) (whatever!) as the 'driver' to altered states.

Thanks Noodle, didn't see the non-binaural info at the time (was concentrating on reading the lesson plan). Not sure what to think now. I know that binaural sound works for me, but if this is just randomized buzzings or maybe stereo bio-feedback (I hope not) then I'm not quite so excited. Vlad's an undoubted genius inventor but it's hard to imagine that he's come up with something superior to binaural entrainment. But then again.... :woah:

That video put a wide smile on my face. Nice Pelevin vibes.
Reading that manual really piqued my interest.

Vlad ??? WTF !!!
Could you be a bit more condescending ? Could you pull a more trite stereotype about Russians ?
This is a music forum, for the Pentagon Contractors Forum it's two floors below.

:sb:
What?

Ease up, hotrod.

Vlad is great and that video is hilarious.
Yeah, really: Vlad's become a one-namer at this point. He's the Fabian-meets-Charo of analog electronics. cuchi-cuchi

If anyone's wondering, it's $228 USD all in with shipping to the US, paypal, exchange. I'm not much for woo woo, but curiosity has won out. :zen:

I'm pretty sure it's not meant to be a musical instrument of any type.

Instead, he means it to be the centerpiece in a series of spiritual rituals...it's actually a pretty great idea.

First you have to suspend your disbelief. The QO manual is a good read.

While it might actually be an interesting instrument, it might lack some respect to use it as such. If I get a notice about Lyra kits anytime soon, I might add this to the bill.

mods it would be real cool if we could rename this thread after the instrument in question, otherwise we'll inevitably end up with multiple threads about this.

this is, frankly, a terrible name for a thread. make your joke in the OP.

...I still have my hands full with the Lyra and so I decided to wait with the QO until some of you guys re-emerge from their first dives...

And I think it is great that people like Vlad and his team are opening new doors and new soundscapes.
