Say Sam Ash got 50 units and took prepaid preorders for $4300. $215000 extra in their accounts. Yay! But interest rates are so low, and those funds need to remain fluid. So, their bank account yields 1.xx% interest or a money market account gets around 2%. On the high end, that's $358 a month. I'd guess Sam Ash doesn't care too much about that. Even if you think they are getting 10% interest from some investment, I still don't think the $1500/month yield is enough money to seem like a strategy.

PayPal holding your funds for 2-3 days in the old days or 1 day now . . . that must be a pile of money. This seems too small, though.
Appreciate the actual numbers... though I still don't doubt that this is a reason for doing this. You could easily drop that cash into something that will garner you 5-6% and maybe it's still not much on the 2600 orders, but when you do this for all pre-ordered products across the board I'm sure that is a LOT of cash money.

And I absolutely don't doubt that PP are operating the same way, and have been for a while (banks too). But what can you do about it (aside from not use them, which I would prefer)... really great example of how powerless one is in the face of some of these mega-corps. The funny thing is, remember when PP actually gave really good interest on money left in the account? Was like 5%? Seems like a dream now.

My guy got back to me today, and said he now expects it for March. Couldn’t tell me if it was early or late March..... sad

Hmm. I'm thinking that at some point, those dealers are, oh, you know...going to have to give some of that money to Korg for the actual product, which as you may recall was the reason for this whole exercise in the beginning. Perhaps some of them have easier terms with Korg than others.
At the end of the day, it's all good if I get a 2600 out of it.

They have little idea beyond guessing, I think. My order is with Sweetwater, and their line was 'March but expect it might get pushed back'. I'm feeling pretty patient about it arriving whenever. It will be one heck of treat the day it shows up. I'll keep checking in on every 2600 thread I can find until then, though. Both patient and overcome with epic levels of excitement in every way at the same time. :hyper: :hihi:

Yes it did and I'm fiercely in love with it :omg:

The feeling of unpacking a vintage icon like that and it's brand new was really something extra for me.

Is the reverb noisy once you pass a certain thresold? Does it interact with the keyboard lfo? A guy in Oz seems to have this issue...

I got an email from RL Music in the UK - Richard has got a beautiful EML ElectroComp 101 for sale for £3200, exactly what I've prepaid for the Korg ARP 2600.

It prompted me to check in with Andertons again as I'd just kinda like to be sure I've got a fair chance of actually getting the 2600.

Turns out I'm #2 and there are hopefully 3 arriving at the end of March, but no guarantees. It definitely seems that this is going to be a slow trickle!

Wish I could afford both.

I do luv me some EML, and that cherry case looks nice. But kinda dumb too with the case clips and apparently no real folding-to-carry option.

Really feel there's no contest here. The 2600 is so much deeper, a real lifetime 'island' synth. You'll be glad you're choosing the 2600.

Besides, whatever rarity of a 101 you're giving up is offset by the new case. So the new Korg-ness of your 2600 makes this about synth vs. synth, sand the 2600 wins that contest every time. And Yes, I'm experienced with both. You can always get an EMW 200 if you're needing an EML sound fix.

There was never really a contest - the 2600 was what I wanted, the EML (which sold on day 1 anyway) just prompted me to check I was really in line for a 2600 - before that I was waiting in hope, scared to ask and deal with any bad news!

Cheers for the EMW direction - looks a nice route.

Okay, you've had a week to play with it - post some pix!

(yeah we know what a 2600 looks like but still, I don't think any of us have seen one of the new ones out in the wild yet)

Aaand.. Pull four handle screws, six acorn nuts and fold the front panel out onto a couple folded towels while you're at it.

You'll go viral -in a good way.

Sparks, Looks a great set up. Please can you, or anyone else, tell me the size of the flight case and what stand works well with the ARP 2600 FS? That would be really helpful as I am expecting a new arrival shortly.

Sure, the size of the road case is:
Width: 98cm (38,58in)
Depth: 31cm (12,20in)
Height: 73,5cm (+ couple of mm for the small rubber feet) With the included wheels the total height is 82cm (32,28in)

A flat surface is best for the 2600 because, save for the rubber feet, there are två different "levels" on the underside.

If you want to place the main case directly behind the 3620, you'll need a surface 36"w x 18"d.
The main case is 32"w x 8-1/4"d (with front lid off), and the KBD is 35-3/4"wx9-11/16"d The rubber feet on the KBD are very close to the edge, and the main case feet are set in about 1-1/2" on each side. So the minimum table style mounting with full support -but with KBD feet overhanging- is about 30 inches wide.

But you don't have to use a flat surface. The typical two tier stand with four arms works fine. Two arms for the KBD and two for the main case. As sparks said, the main case is dual level if you're not exactly under the feet. So either use wide arms for the case or have it lean back slightly. With tier stand back support. This arrangement gives you great flexibility

All these dimnensions are from original ARP 2600's and 3620's, and assume the Korg is the same size and foot positions.
