Here's my only question so far (and it's a super-important one): Once you put the stickers on, do they come off clean? Or do they wreck the surface of the box?
i mean, Goo Gone fixes EVERYthing right? i let my wife slap whatever she wanted on there, she had fun, i get smiles when i look at it, RESULT.

playing around with her for a few hours last night -

so far...

loves -

the knob per function makes it BEAUTIFUL. so quick, very little menu diving.
seems to have everything i adored about the Digitakt sequencer but more readily available.
sounds SO GOOD. the presets are solid as butts, easy to wuggle knob them into different but useful territory.
it's FUN.

annoyances (or things i'm doing improperly) -

it would be neat to affect a range of triggers, like Select All On A Page or select from Trigger 6 - Trigger 12 or some such.
scale restriction, that would extend the keyboard entry to about 2 to 3 octaves? yes please.
it seems like mutes are only global? like if you mute kick, change a pattern, it's still muted? i prefer when the mutes are saved per pattern.
the Stock Project is locked and un-deletable?

but overall, especially for only three hundy, it's AWESOME.

lol. also, if you power off by clicking off a power strip? boots up into the first project. if you're not an IDIOT and power her down by holding down the power button, she goes through a shutdown process then reboots to last state. MUCH BETTER.

how does it do with basic-bitch drum sounds? is it easy to program different sounding of kicks/snares/hats? can you get into traditional 808/909 territory?

i'm thinking i might be better off with the Samples model since those drums sound better to me from what i've heard so far from this one. though the machine per step is pretty sweet on this.

This defenitely interests me since i like stickers, and also synths. j/k, but damn… how do you folks manage to save for something and not get distracted? I would really like to get this in a month (if they're still in stock), but the money is kinda earmarked for a rackbrute, which i'm getting instead of saving a bit longer for a nerdseq, which i decided to get instead of a digitakt since i'm very familiar with trackers. Before that microfreak, tb-03, etc, etc. And i really need a mixer, and a better soundcard, and a computer, ugh.

I'll watch a few more videos, but... it's awefully close. How many octaves do you have with the more tonal machines?

Ten and a half, I think. C0-G10
New track! Drum synthesis heavy, melodic piece where Instruō harmonàig is doing the chords. 🐡

oof. yeah. that's another thing, beyond it would have been nice to go black on steps for sharps/flats, it would be aweeeeesome to have octave up and down knobs/pads.

and i know sacrifices had to be made to keep it so inexpensive, but the pads suuuuuuck.

good thing i'm probably in the top five worst finger drummers ever! and that includes handless humans.

To me it sounds good, not spectacular.
Is not the sound engine what makes it special, is the sequencer and the reverb/delay.

Lack of envelope attack is a big con, very big. With only one lfo available is something I can not understand.

Even a couple of settings like DFAM via menu would make it way more useful.

Other limitation is no smooth recording of knob movements, what elektron calls slide trigs on predigitakt machines. Values jump between steps, so not so good for smooth drone sounds.

Do I like it ? Yes

Does it sound good? Volca drum or FM to me sound better and are more complex, but sequencer, p-locks and reverb makes M:C shine though.

BTW so this seems like the new MachineDrum with knob per function and limited synthesis modes.

One question slightly off topic but :Cycles related:

I'm trying to chain patterns on the M:S so I can record a song. But now each pattern only plays the first bar. Is this how it should be?
Guess it's the same sequencer with the M:C.

I am not sure as I am new to elektron myself but I think you can specify how long the pattern has to play for before moving to the next pattern, I think default is 16 steps/1bar.

Right, i've been listening to demos all day at work and i'm pretty sure i'll be getting one of these. But first, i must ask - is sequence length per track/machine? Can you parameter lock panning? Are the machines locked per track, so you always get 1 kick, 1 metal, etc, or can you reassign them?

...and most importantly, how many stickers of each letter do you get? :hihi:

Thanks!

Yes, per track. Yes, you can parameter lock panning. You can use any machine for any track, six kick tracks if you want to.

Don’t know about the stickers though. :despair: ;)

You can have any length up to 64 per track, and can multiply/divide the clock on each track as well.
Any machine on any track and on any step. You can p-lock the machine type.

1- Pattern length/ time signature per track
2- Pan p-locks, but you could save different versions of same sound with different panning and p-lock those. Lfo can go to Pan and velocity can too.
3-You can use 6 kick machines if you wish too.

To me the lack of attack with just on lfo is biggest anoyance so far...

Great, thanks for the answers folks! Looks like it works the way i want.

I stopped by at my local synth joint after work to put in an order. They had no units even though they were in the pipe for a bunch, and said they hadn't been able to get hold of elektron for over a week, what with the positive response on this one, the virus, and so on.

I've had it for a day and a half.
I'm digging it.

Model Samples + OT is my current favorite combo, especially live. I have less limitations, oddly, with using samples. And I can adjust start point to get an attack parameter (great for turning kicks into baselines),
but I can definitely get some usable work done on the Model:Cycles, so long as I surrender to the tonality of it.

Here are the three patterns I've made so far (sorry, embed isn't working)

LFOs are key to breaking out of the mold.

You can p-lock the 1st page of the LFO menu as well. Destination, Waveform, Speed Multiplier, Depth...

It's actually the only way to p-lock PAN.
But it's super useful for other things since a lot of the synth parameters are macros.
Combine with lock trigs (aka trig-less trigs), and the sequencer becomes one giant modulator.

Anyone else notice that some steps on the sequencer won't turn off unless you stop the sequence playing first? Think it's a bug

I’m tempted to grab one of these. Granted, they’re not as deep as a Digitone but sometimes simplicity is appealing.

No issues here on the new OS 1.12 that dropped March 11th.
Is your OS up to date?
