The Yamaha CS1x and CS2x are both wicked romplers imo.
I can’t stand them.

I've got an EMU ESI-2000. Not quite a rompler but plays some classic sounds.

I just replaced the power supply plus I moved my samples from a SCSI hard drive to a SCSI/SD device.

It's MUCH more quiet!

Sample quality is pretty great and most samples put my Yamaha Motif XF to shame. Samples of my modular sound excellent on it as well.

Not sure if it's a ROMpler but if it is the Roland sh-32 might be worthy of some consideration?

I have to say, I'm digging back into the Techno and Special FX boards in my JV-1080 and there's are so many great samples and individual layers just waiting to be played around with.

Does the Rave-O-Lution 909 count? That thing was instant 90’s trance/rave goodness. Bit on the expensive side last time I checked.

Edit: actually is a synth, not just a rompler.

actually it´s 309, not 909 :hihi:

I always wanted one, but I think it´s beacuse I never used one...by reading a lot of comments and saw videos I know it´s not a machine that I will love because of the workflow, that it´s dated to today´s standards...and it´s not a cheap machine to just try itr
also: it have some waves but more like oscillator waveforns instead of whole samples...the polymorph have some samples (for its third oscillator) and the quasar/technox even more

309 was really not a rompler - in the sense meant in this thread, it was v much designed as a 303 and 808/909 in one box, but expandable upto a 909/808 plus full poly synth in a box, configured with enough knob per function to be very playable live - thats what made it costly, the number pots mostly. it was built like a brick outhouse, could do certain genres of techno perfectly and very convenientl live but was just too limited in range...

it have some samples in the percussion section and the synth expansion adds some new waves, but they (quasimidi) never explained the real tech details behind the technology they used they called it "Analog Emulation Synthesis", but this says nothing

at the time "VA was the way to go and sample-based stuff was not cool" so I think quasimidi never mentioned they use samples or sample cycle waveforms for their synths as a marketing strategy...I guess that the oscillator waves in the synth section are single-cycle samples and then they implemented the filters as a VA, but myabe it´s all samples...anyway, the other sections (percussion) are easily spotted as samples rather than VA, but anyway, it´s not what I´m looking for
