Nord Micro Modular would still rock if you're allowed a computer to edit..

Alesis Ion. Best synth ever made.
Well, you sold me. I’ve been interested in this for a while. I have a 20 year old Virus TI Polar I am quite fond of. Once I get the new workbench / desk, I’m going to snag one. Seems like my kind of kit.

My trusty ESX-1 if it counts as a synth.

Otherwise, uh, I'd probably get a Microfreak.

Karp Odyssey module is just under £500, or the Korg MS20 reissue

both classics for a reason, and that reason is the depth and flexibility of their design.

money no object, I'd say a 2600 reissue or Novation Summit.

money REALLY no object - Moog One. 16 voice

At $500, I'd go for a microkorg and a ditto looper.
I plugged my microkorg in yesterday for my 1 year old to hammer on.. I forgot how great it sounds!! Pretty sure it just replaced the SH-101 in my live setup, getting looped by the octatrack. Much more comfortable bringing out the $200 synth than the "rare blue" SH-101 I paid a ton for last year..
I’m feeling the microKorg. My first synth and still on of my favorites. So many possibilities. I’d probably just add a larger midi keyboard and work with that.

Most respondents seem to be choosing their favourite sub-$500 synth. I saw the question more as about retreating to the bunker with your most challenging synth.

I see that too.....what would you want to be "stuck" with. I am going to go with my gut here......My beloved MC-505.

WAIT, WAIT, Hear me out before you load up the pickup with torches and pitch forks.....and banjo music starts playing!

A decent Groovebox and a pair of headphones would keep many of us busy for hours at a time. As in the case of the MC-505, you are stuck with the Roland JV-1080 rompler engine.....but there is a lot of flexibility there if you explore the options. I have composed entire songs on the MC-505 that just work...it would be my quarantine synth!
It is all shits and giggles,

until somebody giggles and shits.

That’s so cheap, through they were $800 here for some reason.
Yeah, it's what made me buy one. Juno seem to have negotiated some special deal as it's generally significantly more dosh elsewhere.

https://www.juno.co.uk/products/polyend ... 697806-01/

If you 'Click for better price!', Juno knocks off another 10% for British buyers. Even cheaper to those outside the EU and UK as you don't have to pay VAT of 20%.

Anyway, back to the thread question.
Not that i have the money but these are all solemn out now :(

Monophonic? Novation BassStation2. You can buy them for $499 Canadian new, they sound great, and are a great player's synth.

Polyphonic? Gently used Korg Minilogue.

ESQ-1 all the way. Lots of programming fun and on-board 8-track sequencer with sufficient memory for me to emerge from quarantine with a 'dope album' to share with the world. :sb:
This. Or Oberheim Matrix 6

Synths I paid less than 500 for. Hmmm.
Hammond B3
ARP2600/3620
Ensoniq VFX-SD
Ensoniq Mirage
Quartet
Solina string ensemble
Sequential SixTrack
JX3-P

I guess I'd take the VFX-SD or the Hammond.

Interesting. I have one in my storage building that I got in trade and never used. You’ve inspired me to dig it out.

Gear4Music has a secondhand Medusa listed for a mere £889. :75:

A 'nearly new' ;) that's almost twice the price of a fresh one from Juno.

Hey, don't infect the messenger... Other stores have similar deals if you look farther afield. Here's Skylark for instance:

I applaud Novation for their continuing updates and support of a five or six year old instrument. You can use it as a fairly straightforward mono in the mould of a '70s or early '80s synth, but the multiple filter options, ring mod, sub-oscillator, dual LFOs, two overdrive stages, and AFX mode add things you didn't normally see 40 years ago.

It also has the nicest pitch and mod wheels in the business, along with a clever little cutaway underneath the chassis to hook your middle and ring fingers into while digging into the wheels.

The Ensoniq EPS is definitely up there, but also maybe a Roland JV-1080 or a Ensoniq TS-12. If I could have close to 1,000 I'd definitely go with the Prophet 12 module. That is currently my favorite synth.

YAMAHA REFACE DX with D-TRONICS Panel. I don't remember how much I paid. Maybe get the Reface used, and it'll be at the $500 mark.
