That’s way over budget...
It's £449 in the UK at Juno Music. That was about US$540 before today's Sterling crash - probably even less now...
It was around $500 even earlier today. I got an email from them that says they are still processing orders and shipping. I got mine from them for $480 and it was about $534 with the shipping to CA.

They have black Blofeld desktop units for about $360 right now and a Pulse 2 new for.., geez $371. I think the Blofeld wins for a cheap sound design tool, though. The Modor NF-1m is $482.74.

All the European stuff Juno carries seems to be cheaper than here in the US which makes sense. They don’t seem to carry Elektron, though.

I don’t think it would be easy to find a Digitone for under $500, at least on Reverb.

I’m going to go with the Medusa for my choice. If I am allowed two synths with combined price I will go with a Novation Circuit + Monostation combo, which due to sales I got for about $500 total and can be had used for under $500 easily.

500$ or less, what would you chose?
well, not exactly a synth, but hey, i'm a drummer.
Roland HandSonic HPD-15. a bit less than $500 is fair price for used unit in good condition.

i don't use anything else at the moment, at least until i finish making CC-to SysEx convertor for conntrolling it completely (every single FX parameter and more) from external hardware sequencer.

and besides that, it's lots of fun to play, i even started to learn drum solos just for fun, without drum lessons background.

Find a very good deal on a used Octatrack mk1/MPC Live.
2 months using only that and you'll be flying doing all sorts of crazy stuff, from sampling to creating your own oscillators and using the sampler as a synth.

That’s so cheap, through they were $800 here for some reason.
Yeah, it's what made me buy one. Juno seem to have negotiated some special deal as it's generally significantly more dosh elsewhere.

https://www.juno.co.uk/products/polyend ... 697806-01/

If you 'Click for better price!', Juno knocks off another 10% for British buyers. Even cheaper to those outside the EU and UK as you don't have to pay VAT of 20%.

Anyway, back to the thread question.
got me a Medusa at Juno's yesterday for 488 Euro! And yes - love to stay with it for the next two month...

+1 for Nord modular G1

Or perhaps a dx100 and mpc2000 combo would have lots of potential

If there's any geography that offers used MPC Live's for around the stated budget please do share!!

Using the $500 limit, I would narrow it down to: Blofeld or a used Digitakt (probably blows budget by $50)

From what I currently own: new Octatrack mk2 (feed it with apps from my iPad). That would (will) keep busy, also I will be patching too :hihi:

ASR10 would be fun.

Or I could just live with my Grendel drone machine for a couple of months.

Seen a couple got for 550USD on the facebook group. It was only two and from frustrated owners, but yeah, this is why I said a "very good deal".
Its not the norm of course.

I agree that the Novation Bass station II is awesome and worth the coin, though I'd recommend a look at the Waldorf Blofeld desktop. Super under rated in terms of programmable possibilities. When I spend time on it alone it rewards me greatly.

Easy, Blofeld, I need to buy one again.

For £500 I would sell my immaculate Yamaha Motif ES7 with Prophet VS and DX cards, and 512mb of sample memory. It would take the lucky purchaser 2 months just to get through the manuals, plus about the same time to enhance their upper body strength enough to lift the thing. But once they do....

More seriously, there are lots of great workstations that can be had 2nd hand for that kind of money or less, and the amount of technology built into them is pretty staggering. In 2 months you could be producing whole tracks with one. 2 months with a Korg M1 would be a hoot.

I would say Octatrack or OP-1, but these are too damn expensive.
So Model:Cycles then, it basically has everything to make full tracks at a great price. From my existing setup I would choose the Volca drum, paired with a Minilogue if possible. Should be well in the price range if bought used.

Limited to $500 or less? I don't own anything in that price range that I'd want to enter a monogamous relationship with. I'd go VST. Maybe spend some time getting to love Pigments. Sorry.

Pile of options in the under 1k range though.

$500 bucks would definitely be a used Digitakt for me.
