most beautiful synthesizers

Post by Hirundo » Sun Mar 29, 2020 1:42 am

Sorry if this seems like fluff. I'm curious about other people's opinions.

I think the most beautiful synth is either the Roland Jupiter 8 or the Waldorf Q "Halloween edition." Runners up are the Sequential Prophet 12, the Waldorf Quantum, the Sequential Prophet T8, and (go ahead, murder me) the Roland D70. Apparently, I like sleek and professional, with a touch of panache.

What are your opinions of the most beautiful synths ever made?

Those are all just black boxes with keyboards. ;P

I’d probably go with the Buchla Easel.

When it’s all said and done, the original DX7.
It’s a brown box with keyboard.

I'm also partial to the 'classic' Prophet look.

My first modular track where I used drum modules! There's also a ton of FM cross modulation from the Instruō Cš-L in there and the Metasonix R56 is a big part of the sound. :star:

We also just did a live performance. Just eurorack, a mixer and two nitwits. :hyper: http://tiny.cc/8ndspz

It would seem that still, after all these years, perception is essentially thought to be a passive process.

That's the Konig & Meyer 17580 A "Heli" guitar stand if I am not mistaken.
The Heli 2 is slightly different but not sure if there's any difference in angle/which dimensions fit. Going by pictures it looks the same in those respects.

I love the aesthetic of so many machines, so it’s hard to pick just one... however, Ensoniq was on top of it. I’m sorry but even the Mirage was a stunner. Talk about balancing negative space! The ESQ1 is a masterclass in space, ergonomics, colour and design, as is the EPS. And the Fizmo.... drool! Sorry I’m salivating! Suddenly I need more Ensoniq in my life!
Gum is fun, but not on a cat.

My minds an art gallery.

Love the juno's, dx7, ppg wave, but for me, in terms of beauty - just sheer quality, it has to be the minimoog. I'm surprised I'm the first to suggest it. An amazing piece of design - just a lovely thing.

Sure it is black with silver nobs, but is there anything more beautiful than the TONTO synthesizer :hihi:

OK, edit, I am putting in an image:

Too bad this one never became a regular product: the Vermona Mephisto
For those among us that can read german, this article tells us the story about it:

have to go with the original minimoog... it is a design classic for a reason. Also extremely practical...

Nord Lead 1

Yamaha digital synths had interesting industrial design: the YS100/YS200 series for example.

The Moog Sonic Six looks like a Model D shagged an IBM selectric compact I in a broom closet.

E-mu circa EIII and Emax keyboards

Of the synths I personally own, I guess I'd say my MS-20m or Rev1 Korg Arp Odyssey module are the lookers. The Microwave 1 doesn't look bad for a rackmount box. It was Axel Hartmann's first synth design.
Insert pithy statement here

i like the look of a dx7 but only after trent reznor has finished playing with it.

my favorite looking synth is the Roland JP-8080 and its virtual stylistic offspring Sunrizer, though maybe i wouldn't call them beautiful. that title would go to the 2500. i do love all the colors of the 200e as well.
