If we are going for a simple black keyboard synth, I'll offer up the Akai AX80. The little bar graphs to show parameter settings really makes this beautiful.

Image

My fave desktop module as far as looks would come down to a toss-up between the Futuresonus Parva or the Kawai K1m. OK, I'd need a 3-sided coin. I'd need to add in the Analogue Solutions Impulse Command.

The choice gets MUCH tougher if you were talking semi-modulars:
Either of the Grendel Grenadier Models
Analogue Solutions Fusebox
Pittsburgh Modular 3900
Make Noise 0-Coast
Behringer Crave
eowave Quadrantid Swarm

Those are all just black boxes with keyboards. ;P

I’d probably go with the Buchla Easel.
In similar vein:

Do racksynths count?

It would seem that still, after all these years, perception is essentially thought to be a passive process.

My top 3. I prefer the form factor of 3 octave synths the most and I’m partial to current designs and models. That being said, my favorite vintage look has to go to the Kawai SX-240.

The image should show! The case is a hacked old suitcase from the brand Cavalet, much of the modules are Verbos (which sound and look awesome) Eurorack modules.

The thing was for sale, but if you can find a similar suitcase, why not build your own. :)

I need a stand just like that for my Synthi, do you know what stand that is?
I still have a actual EMS AKS stand in the basement somewhere from back in the day when I owned a couple. It came along with one of the ones I bought, so I assumed it was official. It fit/worked perfectly. I should hunt for it.

I second the AKS and VCS3 but also add the Oberheim 4-voice.

I personally am a big fan of the look of the Moog One. Beautiful synth and an amazing sound too!

See the problem now, I posted from mobile and saw the picture back there, now on desktop and indeed, no picture showing.
This is the suitcase special in question:

Sacrilege perhaps, but the Andromeda 'Rebirth' (one off?) project from a few years well looked quite tasty to me.

VCS3 and Obbie 4 voices have my vote

Also, it´s remarcable how people like Jeff from Customsynth improved the look of some synths...some of them was originally awful, or just meh, some others was already nice, but his work is amazing in most cases

one of the reasons Buchla synths were originally appealing precisely because they were cheaper than moog, and you could probably trade drugs for them.

I like the white panel...don´t know about the black sides...maybe with black knobs it would have a more balanced color scheme, and also look more stormtrooper (also a good thing for me)

anyway, the MS20 was always a "dark color" synth for me...I mean, I don´t think it sounds like a "white" synth...more like the classic black or maybe blue/black combo (like the mono/poly or polysix)
