TTSH vs Antonus vs KARP 2600

Post by we_squirm » Thu May 14, 2020 9:09 am

So I'm DYING to get an Arp 2600.

I desperately want the Korg one, but who knows if and when they'll be actually releasing more?

I spoke to Antonus, and they're expected delivery time now for a new one is October.

I've heard the TTSH isn't super accurate :/

What do I do? I'm so impatient. And in terms of quality, how do they rank against each other?

As a former 2600 owner, I was really jonesing for the Korg reissue, however, $4k is a bit steep for me. While looking for affordable alternatives I discovered the BLM 7200 and recently purchased one. It is very much 'inspired' by the 2600 in terms of functionality and module compliment, but takes things several steps forward in added capabilities. It's a self contained, semi-modular system with a completely open architecture (no pre-patch). Does it sound like a 2600? Similar but, no, not exactly - but it sounds absolutely wonderful in its own right and its given me enough of the Arp 'vibe' that I can now look at a 2600 without drooling! And it's considerably cheaper, too.

Used Antonus sometimes pop up. Mine sounds just like a 2600, but keep in mind it’s just a TTSH variant.

Sacrilege I know, but there is that affordable 2600 variant that will reach market in the foreseeable future..

Opinions are subjective, talk is cheap and people have agendas. Given the care the designer of the TTSH put into reverse-engineering the 2600, his creation could hardly fail to sound very similar. My experience of the TTSH is that it's close enough for any real-world application, by which I mean use within a musical composition.

Until the BARP is released purchases in the space are pretty speculative. If the BARP turns out to be a sound-alike, demand for the others will fall. If the BARP turns out to not capture the 2600 magic, demand for the others might actually go up. A lot of people are staying on the sidelines until this resolves. The other 3 sources can't produce 2600s in quantity, and so Behringer is in control. This might explain why they feel like they can move slowly.
