Which Eurorack Chord Gen. for Hydrasynth?

Post by Wuff Moogler » Sun Jun 28, 2020 1:02 pm

I’m building a Eurorack and I have some extra space. I use an Intellijet Scale quantizer with my Moog DFAM and I’m about to get the Hydrasynth desktop. I like that I can do custom scales in the Hydrasynth but don’t like that I can’t save chords. There are Cv inputs, however I’m not sure if I can input chords this way as support hasn’t responded. If so I’m trying to find the right chord generator that will be compatible and save chords. Anyone know what I can do?

I’ve looked at
Klang - looks neat but time consuming

Tetrapad /Tête
Shapeshifter
Whatever works best

You can’t send chords over CV to the Hydrasynth because there aren’t enough CV inputs on it, but you can over Midi. For this you could use the Befaco VCMC plus whatever else you want in front of it. Offhand Tetrapad, O+C, Harmonaig, Sinfonion could all be good to pair with it.

Accord Melisma.
Pair it with Pams.

While I’m still within the return window on the 40 hp case, I really only have an extra 4 hp if I’m going to get the strymon magneto, so looking at all this I’m not really feeling it’s much better than just feeling out chords on the hydra. I liked the Accord Melisma idea but I wonder if the Midi will conform to the custom scales I choose in Hydra , and I also would rather input my own playing style to the machines rather than have a clock do it, although I could be swayed if it felt intuitive and cool or whatever. I wonder if the Pyramid might be a better solution as another piece of gear instead.

Five12 Vector sequencer?
If at first you don't succeed read the instruction manual.

I think I’ll just save clips of all the chords in ableton and send them out to the synth that way

Not a eurorack module, but maybe something like the NLDR might be more what you are looking for?

When I look that up I only find non linear dimensional reduction so I guess I need more info or a link

Also there's lots of generative MIDI patches for things like norns, Mozaic (ios app), etc.. look at https://patchstorage.com

The NDLR is cool till you realize you can’t use custom scales then it’s almost laughable. If I’m fact it will conform to custom scales within hydra synth that’s another story but I have yet to confirm this possibility

FYI, custom scales is supposedly on the to do list for NDLR.

Hi, I'm one of the designers of the Melisma
How would this be implemented? The reason I ask is I'm about to add custom chords (scales) to the Melisma which can then be chosen as a progression or CV access. These would be added manually (defined over a 2 octave range by the user)
Cheers!

I think it would be helpful to have all the different scales available and select a custom bank from those, each of them would then conform to whatever scale is chosen. I use intellijel Scales
