i'm sure he's trying to keep the price down, but i would have loved to have touch strips on that.

It looks cool but is it smaller than the 08 desktop? It looks that way. Either way very cool that Dave is providing the option for a desktop with this synth as well.

having tried the P12, one the strongest pointof the synth is the user interface.

having shrunk it so much seems a bit odd

I would have expected more knobs. This looks a bit too stripped down. Might still be worth it, depending on price.

I read $2K elsewhere. Kinda puts it in acategory of :despair:

Nope. Actually on amazona.de it says 2k EUROS, which is even more stupid and outrageous.

Be interested to hear how the interface works out on that thing- doesn't look too hot at first glance.

2000 USD after duty and VAT, roughly 2000 €. Waiting on the official news, though.

2000 Euros is a crazy price for a synth with that interface. Sure you can use the Soundtower editor over USB, but it's hardly a Virus TI.

Meh.

I've been seeing Prophet 12 Keyboards on ebay for ~$2,500

So it might be reasonable for this to drop considerably. But still, much more than $1,000 would be too much for me.

I was hoping for a desktop version but the lack of much interface is a disappointment.

He's insane. I know he has big hands and all but such a shrinkage job and the extra work he likely had to invest to re-do the firmware to accommodate all of that wonk does not make a lot of sense to me.

Shame... Looks like its a Prophet 08 for me.

Yeah, I think a module's an interesting idea but this is a total failure of an interface. Small/portable is fine, but not at least having basic dedicated knobs for standard programming is weird. It'd be good if they kind of followed the basic amount of knobs, etc as at least a tempest if they want a smaller box.

FWIW this is still a mockup, here's to hoping for a revision with more knobs.

Actually saw a demo of this today at ADE. By Dave himself. Caught me by complete surprise, as I was sure it was a Tempest when he set it up. Can't say much about it besides what you've read elsewhere. Price was stated to be $2200. He didn't know the European prices.

Looks like a done deal then. No chance for a revision with more knobs. Only usable with a software editor :waah:

Phew was thinking of getting a p08 desktop and after seeing this I'm more convinced that the 08 is the way to go. Shame about the cutting back on the knobs though on this new desktop jobby. :sadbanana:

I thought the same thing initially about the small amount of knobs, but I'm a little uncertain how it will work in practice. It has a fair amount of buttons. I asked him a bit how if worked, and apparently most of the encoders maps to different functions when you press the various buttons. Makes sense I guess.

I could do without knobs if it had a mess of buttons and a data slider ala ESQ, I never minded that style. That thing's just going to be menu diving hell.

might not be as bad as it looks but why would you get this when you can get an 08?

Having been disappointed with the sound of the P12 when I played it I was at least comforted by the fact that DSI at least built a brilliant user interface. This design fritters away even that redeeming factor.
