Roland, love that Varese piece, may be one of my favorites so far.

Belatedly joining the Kyma exciter/resonator party!

Here are some alien sounding vocal cavity sounds from sending analog pink noise filtered by a Serge Modular VCFS (variable slope filter) through an REResonator in Kyma:

New weekly sound. Working on a "pluck designer" used for physical modeling based sounds. Having some issues with Live and drop-outs so the example is cut a bit short.

I don't think Geoff is around so I'll post this example here for him:

Avril 14th through the HHM / markov generator. As a side note, Avril 14th must be my favorite piece of work from the past 20 years with the Murcof & Vanessa Wagner version being a particular favorite version.

Thank you for your great examples Ben!
As you know, my sonic experiments are on board of the NASA mission OSIRIS-REx!

A.t.m. less time for examples here as I am curating two sonic festivals.
I'll be back!

I missed that, Roland. That is awesome.

Which festivals are you curating?

I worked up a submission to KISS2020 this year. I am so not good about talking about music and sound (insert Martin Mull quote here).

Kyma (same basic sound as last week but with tweaked impulse design) recorded to cassette on high-speed that is then played back at half-speed and bounced down with another version of the sound play at the initial pitch but half tempo. That cycle is then repeated once again.

Back to orbits & oscillations:

The OSIRIS-REx started orbiting the astroïde Bennu, inspirered me to create the album SONIC FORMS | ORBITS for public & private spaces.

The Kyma International Sound Symposium KISS 2020: the Sound of Science is an intensive 4-day symposium highlighting the sounds of science through lectures, live cultural performances, scientist/composer collaborations, data sonification, attentive listening sessions, hands-on data-mapping workshops, and more. Whether you are a sound expert, a sound-obsessed aficionado, or simply curious about the potential power of sound, we invite you to join us for KISS 2020 — the Sound of Science (Origin Stories) — held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 13-16 August 2020.

Each celestial body, in fact each and every atom, produces a particular sound on account of its movement, its rhythm or vibration. All these sounds and vibrations form a universal harmony in which each element, while having it’s own function and character, contributes to the whole.

Sound permeates our lives 24/7, from ubiquitous personal sound tracks conveyed through earbuds, to the disturbing maskers of HVAC systems, traffic, and other stress-inducing noises of urban life. Immersed as we are in this unrelenting sea of sound, it can be easy to take sound for granted or to let it fade into the background.

The year 2020 has been designated the International Year of Sound, and at KISS 2020 we will be giving sound our undivided attention as we celebrate the power of sound in culture, in communication, in education and in science. Sound is a powerful channel for communicating meaning — whether it is the first protophones uttered by an infant, the sonification of data from a high-energy physics experiment, or the supra-linguistically powerful experience of a live musical performance. When we listen attentively, we discover that sound is a complex, rich and meaning-laden signal. Yet sound is currently underutilized, shoved into the background, and masked by noise from the mechanisms of everyday life that were designed without heed to potential stress-inducing acoustic side-effects.

Love this.

Broke my old stock Capy320 out again last night because I was thinking about selling it...it's not going anywhere. SampleCloud is probably my favorite granular instrument of all time. Here are some bowed cymbals into it.

m0rb1d - I love the SampleCloud to pieces as well. I had to stop myself from using it on everything. I've tried dozens of other granular approaches over the past 20 years and none really even come close for me, though I do like Quanta and Kaivo as instruments with a granular engine their core.

Kyma spectra modal filter played through a transducer that is resonating an acoustic guitar. Recorded via Zoom H6.
