Re: best granular plugin
Mangle and Iris2 are both really good, different sort of workflow but really great sounds

Re: best granular plugin
Be careful - the Mangle is abandonware...
Re: best granular plugin
CrusherX looks like most comprehensive, if I had the money I think that would be the one to go for
Re: best granular plugin
I've had trouble sorting out this area myself. There seem to be:
1. Synthesizers that granulize their oscillators
2. Plugins that granulize a sound file loop
3. Plugins that granulize a track like an effect plugin
I was looking for the third, an effect to granulize a track, and wound up getting Output - Portal
https://output.com/products/portal
It does some interesting things in that regard, but it has become one of those plugins that is so complex to dial in that I have not gone back to it much.

Really? That’s a bummer. I was about to pull the trigger. Has the developer said that or just vanished?

If you use Ableton this is good https://www.ableton.com/en/packs/granulator-ii/

You can go on KVR and see various threads complaining about him. He pretty much vanished.
Look towards the end of this one - I think download links are no longer working

I haven't spent a ton of time with this but this may peak some interest. The iPad as a controller is what really compelled me on my end to try it. Its pretty deep.

Re: best granular plugin
I'm mostly using Falcon for granular needs at the moment. But it's a pretty vast synthesis environment, doesn't come cheap and is likely overkill if you're just looking for a granular tool. Also still use the classic Alchemy 1.5 sometimes, but it's mac only and tied to Logic/Mainstage now... I'd probably be leaning towards Quanta if I were strictly in need of a granular synth.
I wouldn't really put Iris2 under this category. It does sample playback, but doesn't have extensive granular capabilities and is more of a spectral editing based synthesizer.Quiet Wilds wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 3:43 pmMangle and Iris2 are both really good, different sort of workflow but really great sounds

I use Audiority's Grainspace on a lot of my tracks, everything from subtle to completely warped. https://www.audiority.com/shop/grainspace/

Re: best granular plugin
Oh but what a plethora of options you have.
Crusher X is one of the most featured but I got the shits when the developer wanted you to update it every year for barely any discount.
I tried Quanta and Spacecraft Granular and became a fan of the latter more than the former.
I've also a soft spot for SaltyGrain which is a modern update of a nice old plugin, the name I can't remember.
The Mangle is great but as mentioned above there is no guarantee it will ever be updated if it stops working.
Granite is similar to Mangle and is supported. It has some quirks which means I don't tend to use it but...
Falcon has some excellent IRCAM granular stuff that sits somewhere between Crusher X the last two and PadShop Pro... which is perhaps the nicest sounding one.
Then again Reaktor has a shitload of excellent granular stuff including Form which I reckon competes with Mangle and Padshop Pro.
The Audiority one is very much like Mutable Instruments Clouds if that floats your boat.
Melda of course has a granular that is almost up there with Crusher X in complexity and possibility.
So long as you can be flexible there are some good freebies...
Granulab (https://www.abc.se/~re/GranuLab/Granny.html)
and
Argot Lunar (https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/ ... Argotlunar)
being two examples.

Re: best granular plugin
Does Borderlands count since it’s technically an iPad app? It’s great either way.
