Batch audio converter for OSX?

Post by shootingtigers » Fri Dec 26, 2014 11:07 am

Can anyone recommend a good batch audio converter for OSX?

I used to use NCH Switch but they have recently changed the demo restrictions so I can only convert 5 files at a time, I could buy it but I thought I'd check there isn't a free program or something better I could use? :despair:

Thanks for the reply but sadly it looks like it only does MP3, I'm trying to convert 24bit to 16bit WAV for use in an MPC...

Looks good but it's over €400 which is way more than I'm looking to spend...

https://mikeash.com/software/qtamateur/ is nice, too - does playback of many file types in addition to batch export.

I use sample manager which is not free but can do anything...

http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/samplemanager/

But you should be able to batch convert 24bit to 16bit in itunes, just set your import settings to 16/44 wav and create a new version...

Also not free but Adobe Audition has excellent batch convert capabilities for any audio format needed.

If you don't mind a bit of command line jiggery pokery, then it's pretty much what SoX was made for.

XLD's the way to go for lossless/uncompressed only: http://tmkk.undo.jp/xld/index_e.html

but audacity is my go-to for MPC samples as it is also an excellent sample editor. it works with .wav natively but you need to download the LAME MP3 codec to work with mp3s

Snapper is awesome. I imagine Barbabatch is great too.

This was one of the many reasons I switched to Reaper. What a great DAW!!!

XLD is definitely the way to go for uncompressed. Until I started using the SRC built into Izotope RX it was what I used to convert everything to FLAC, MP3, from WAV to AIF and back.

If your comfortable with the command line then SoX will do all this kind of stuff with ease.

http://sox.sourceforge.net/

It's probably the highest quality resampling algorithm on the market. Many DAWs incorporate it.

I think Audiofinder can do some batch processing too. And sound forge for Mac. Barbabatch is very robust, if you are trying to convert through folders, and maintain folder structures it is great. Sox is good too but pretty low level.

the best converter is REAPER ;)
you can simply run batch programs (file->batch). does it for sample rate conversion and the likes but you can also run the files through dsp chains :D

imho, it kills the other stuff and to have that integrated in a decent daw where you can also do proper file editing... big plus.
