Click on popularity and the number of downloads becomes a guide or a sort of rating system. Go from there.

Only problem is the paid modules don't show the number of downloads.

ZZC Phaseque sequencer is my favorite sequencer.
https://zzc.github.io/en/sequencers/phaseque
its a buchla marf, a rossum control forge, a bit of o and c and a bit of elektron.
One of the finest sequencers i have used in any format.

Monome grids, earthsea, Meadowphysics and so on VCV rack ports are also a favourite of mine.
James Joyce was a synthesizer, trying to bring in as much as he could. I am an analyzer, trying to leave out as much as I can.

Looks like all of the VCV brand ones are on the sale and a few of the other paid ones, but it doesn't appear that all of the paid ones are on sale. None the less I picked up VCV Chords and Host. Thanks for the great software!

VCV Rack Manual Module

Post by Bob Borries » Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:40 am

There's a free Rack module called "computerscare Custom Blank" that displays pics in your rack. I've been trying to learn the "macro osc 2" module from Audible Instruments, so I made a handy jpg that shows the names of the controls for each mode.

To load the jpg put the Custom Blank module in your rack
Image

Right-Click on the module and select "Load Image" and load the Macro-Osc-2.jpg file
Image

Drag the right hand corner of the module to stretch it out to the size you want

Here's 2 more Module Manuals for the Macro 1 Osc (Braids) I had to break it up into 2 pics (Macro 1 A & Macro 1 B) what a monster of a module.

Here's a Module Manual for the Segment Generator (Stages).

I didn't know about "computerscare" -- great idea to use it for notes about modules. And thanks for sharing your guide to "macro osc 2"!

Various VCV news:

The new VCV Library is released, allowing you to browse individual modules and add them to your VCV account.

You can now discover virtual ports of Eurorack modules by clicking the "Available for VCV Rack" link on certain ModularGrid pages. Example: Alright Devices Chronoblob 2 on ModularGrid

For information about the upcoming Rack v2 and Rack for DAWs, follow the Rack development blog for the most up-to-date news. VCV Rack for DAWs will be a new product closely following the versions of VCV Rack as they are released. It will be initially be available for as a 64-bit VST2 effect and instrument plugin. VST3/AU/AAX will be considered for future releases.

VCV Chords now supports an unlimited number of chords, so you can use it to drive your patch's chord progression, no matter how complex.

VCV Host, the VST plugin host for Rack, now has trigger inputs for playing percussion VST plugins.

Hi Vortico/otehr VCVheads

I've been messing around with audible instruments stuff on VCV rack and love the idea you can potentially explore the funcionality of something in software before buying in real life.

I am wondering if VCV rack has ever approached Doepfer about making digital recreations of their modules? I'm assuming there's all sorts of copyright issues with such a proposition - but just curious - especially about some of their more unique utility modules/exotic filters

At this time I can neither confirm nor deny that we are working with Doepfer to create virtual VCV clones.

I clicked like 10 spots into that video and every time he's just talking and no sound is being emitted. So annoying.

One is free and open source leading to a ton of options to choose from.
So go for the free one cause you can always buy VM later.

Hello,
Maybe it has already been answered but I didn't find it.
I tried to replicate a vcv rack patch using Audible Instruments Rings on my original MI Rings hardware and it sounded very different. While most of the modes sound close between software and hardware, when using an external exciter in quantized sympathetic string mode, the sound is really different and overall, playing with the frequency and structure settings will lead to something more "Lush" with the software.
I am aware that the ADC and DAC are doing their part here but would not think the difference would be so obvious. May it comes from the sampling of the exciter input ? I did a test sending white noise from kinks. I don't think it is a calibration problem since the modes sound suite close when not using an external exciter.

What was you methodology here? I think there's a difference in how the knobs scale in vcv and in hardware.

Hello. To understand why the patch sounded so different, I have made a basic soundcheck : midi controller sending trigger to strum input and CV to 1v/o input to both hardware and software at the same time. Each setting at noon or fully cw/ccw except for the frequency knob. On vcv rack, I was able to crossfade between sound of hardware taken from the audio interface (rings to 4ms listen four to Audient ID4) and the virtual emulation. With this test, I was able to hear that the 1st and 3rd mode sound suite similar even if the original MI Rings sounded a bit muffled. But the 2nd mode sound really different even without external exciter. First, with structure at noon, the "chord" is not the same between my module and the emulation and over the course of the structure knob, I find intervals that are different between the two. I mean that I cannot reproduce. Then I sent white noise from a kinks module to the exciter input and did the same on vcv rack. Now, it sound really far between the two rings.
Maybe the white noise is not the same between the virtual one and the original, I have yet to look into this but A/Bing them before sending them into Rings, it sounded close.

I'm kind of a voltage modular fanboy - I got lost in vcvrack with 2500 modules, where I found that picking up the free 22 modules in the nucleus bundle gave me a good goal to figure out, and picked up some more bundles when they went on sale from there. It's also super-low in CPU, which is great for the crumby laptop that I use most of the time. I think it looks great and sounds great. Grab the free nucleus and see what you think!
