[iOS] PolyPhase - Generative Sequencer

Post by mekohler » Tue Nov 27, 2018 5:13 pm

PolyPhase is generative sequencer for the iPad

BETA: https://testflight.apple.com/join/6FXwpG97
Image:

A Master melody is generated on the fly & copied, with phase offsets, to Slave Tracks. You can DISABLE the generation of notes & draw your own sequences, or use the randomization functions.

You can sequence external hardware, other iOS instruments, or use the included wavetable synth.

There are many adjustable parameters which will guide the generation of notes…it’s extremely versatile. You can let it run all day and play for you…or, when you hear something you like, turn the Master Track OFF to LOCK / LOOP the sequences in place.

Any suggestions / feature requests are welcome before I release it!

from a first short test this looks good. The snapshots area is very useful, and with that lot of random options PolyPhase could become a success. Although there appeared quite a lot of sequencers lately.

Thank you, well done.

Thanks, it was received well on the Elektronauts forum a few weeks ago :bananaguitar:

The bottom randomization functions and pattern / euclid algorithms are what really lets you come up with ideas quickly.

I think the iPhone screen is too small to accommodate the UI. Once I release the first version I will have to experiment and see what I can change for a smaller screen real estate, and if that works at all.

I released 1.0: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/polypha ... ?ls=1&mt=8

It might take some time to propagate to all of Apple's servers. I will leave the Beta up until Monday. When you do install, I would delete the Beta first.

Really amazing app together with the Collider app! Would you consider to add Ableton link?

I’ve not heard of this app yet. Guess I’d better head over to Audiobus forum to discuss. Thanks!

Got it. Do I know what I’m doing? Surely not, but that won’t stop me from having fun with it.

Any update on this? I'd love to use Polyphase in an AUM session... it's a great app, BTW. I love the synth, too...

I wrote the general skeleton code for it, I just haven't tested it yet :waah: . You can use it in AUM as is, however. In PolyPhase, just select "AUM" as the destination port for all Tracks, and in AUM go to the MIDI Routing page and route that AUM destination to whatever you want. You can also have PolyPhase listen to AUM's MIDI Clock to sync it up.

Looks great. Are the CC lanes all stepped outputs? If so is there a slew control to slide between values?

The CC Tracks have a range of 0-127, there is no slewing. You can manually slew if you draw a smooth slope, but if the generative function generates 2 CC values next to each other that are far apart in value, there will be an immediate jump...I'll look into options of smoothing that out.
