MASTERING - Plug in replacement for Maselec MPL-2 ?

Post by nuromantix » Sat Nov 16, 2019 9:14 am

I'm used to using the MPL-2 in my mastering chain. Is there a comparable plug-in these days or do people tend to use a limiter plug followed by a de-esser?

there is nothing in digital that will sound like the MPL-2.
however there are tons of good de-essing, HF limiting, and dynamic eq plug ins which do similar things.
i use DMG Multiplicity. slight learning curve, read the manual, but worth it-- even stuff with loads of cymbal hiss and hi mid unpredictability can be tamed without affecting the transients. it's a crucial plug in for my mastering chain that often goes on before hitting the DAC/outboard gear.
