Ableton cv tools help

I’m trying to get to use cv tools in Ableton Live with my modular and I just need a little guidance with this in order to achieve the best outcome.
I using a focusrite 18i20 for my daw and after reading threads I think that if I use the adat out to es-3 that this may be the best solution before getting rid of the 18i20 for a daw that is dc coupled.
I also have a keylab mkii with cv in and out. I’m not sure if I could go through that to be able to use cv tools correctly or is there a simpler solution to all of this that I’m unaware of?

CV Tools uses audio signals (through a DC-coupled device, like an ES-3) to send information from Live to your modular. That's how you get all those smoothed curves and stuff from computer to modular.

The CV In and Out on your Keylab are a sort of built-in MIDI-to-CV converter in the keyboard - and work only off MIDI. So you could use regular MIDI tracks and MIDI CC's to produces some CV for your modular, but you wouldn't be using CV Tools to do it.

Hope that (kinda) helps!

Yeah that definitely helps, thanks. I’m going to go the es-3 route. It seems like the best solution for the current situation. :tu:
