Favourite freeware weird/experimental vst plugins?
Hello fellow wigglers,
After a long long hiatus I am getting back into the addictive realm of creating sounds and making music/annoying the neighbors.
I mainly am using hardware, especially some drone machines and similiar more "weird" sound sources.
I record into Ableton Live 10 Lite (I don't need and don't want the full version) on a Windows 10, 64 bit laptop.
I don't want to spend money on software, so I'd appreciate if you could recommend interesting experimental or weird vst plugins that are freeware.
I am interested mostly in noise/drone/ambient stuff.
It doesn't matter if it is an effect or an instrument, I am very interested what has been developed in the last years.
Preferably no plugs that are known to crash a lot....
Thank you all very much!!!

Try this search for the KVR Developer Challenges, there are many entries over the years, a lot of them
quite good (all are free of course).

Re: Favourite freeware weird/experimental vst plugins?
My favourite VST combo for random mayhem consists of...
Sophia by Audiobulb
Populus by Xoxos
Ball Sequencer 1.5 by Upland Toys
I run them in VSTHost with the (red) MIDI outs from the sequencers both connected to Sophia's MIDI in and use that setup to record any interesting results for later editing in Audacity - as whole pieces, individual samples or (lately) Morphagene reels.
Sophia and Populus are utterly chaotic, yet capable (with a happy accident or two) of creating some stunning results, from eerie through scary and noisy to soaringly beautiful. Setting all the waveforms to sine on Sophia will help tame it to begin with.

Some nice free versions available at Auburn Sounds, these are great and useful plugins IMO.
Auburn Sounds
*The paid versions features are well worth it IMO, if anyone considers them.

Experimental is an approach not a style.
PureData is free and offers a lifetime of experimentation
