es-9 fresh install noise

Post by dlf » Sat Jun 06, 2020 12:26 pm

hi there,

just installed my new es-9 out of the box in a doepfer A-100MC case,
connected it to my 2018 macmini and inserted headphones.
installed the es-9 config tool, version says 1.1.1
opened ableton, selected es-9 as input and output device.
am receiving a very loud noise on all input channels.
same noise also audible on headphones, with or without usb connection to the computer.

any ideas ?

thank you, gideon

The A-100MC cannot supply enough power to the ES-9. You'll need a better PSU.

Hi,

I just got my ES-9 and I am having this same issue - all inputs make a high pitched sound and don't pass audio. The high pitched sound can be routed to the outputs via the configuration tool and can be recorded in my DAW. Audio from my DAW (Reaper) will play out of the ES-9, but no audio will go in (however, incoming audio is displayed accurately by the LED in the jack). I'm running Windows 10, got the v1.1.1 firmware. Here's what I've tried:
4ms Pod40 powered case, ES-9 is the only module in the case;
uZeus powering the ES-9 only

Both situations produce the same result. Do I need a different power module, and if so, which one?

A uZeus should be plenty powerful for the ES-9.

Have you installed the driver?

I can say for me, installing the es-9 in a bigger case with more power did the trick. (a doepfer A-100P6 case w PSU3)

The person i bought it from said they had it in that same doepfer case and it was working for them. It does seem strange that i couldn't get it to work using a uzeus tho since the specs say it should be fine
