I have just found this module, seems a nice way to send CVs to my Midi synths and to ableton. It does not seem to be available anywhere in EU, is that right?

Would be nice if you could use the internal synth with some of the CV inputs and at the same time use the other CV inputs to send midi CC to other hardware. Is it possible at all?

There seem to be quite a few in stock:

https://wigglehunt.com/?query=general+c ... e_max=5000

You could perhaps put together something like you mention in Programmable mode, but it's not a use case that's really catered for.

Thanks, but it is still under production, right? I saw the usual ones like thomann or Musicstore only have it under request

Apologies for the delayed response. Yes, I followed the details on page 55 of the user manual, still no luck. At the root level I have the setlist.txt file and the set folder. The setlist.txt file has 'generalcv setlist v1' as the first line and under that the set folder name. Inside the set folder I have the playlist.txt file and the midi files, the playlist.txt file has 'generalcv playlist v1' as the first line and under that the midi file names. Is that right?

Your setlist.txt is using legacy mac line endings.

Is there a way to specify which midi channel to accept when using the midi breakout with "midi forwarding" set to true? Right now it seems to accept on all. I've tried looking through the SAM2695 but haven't had much luck yet. Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for the lovely module :D

You would have to send the relevant SysEx to turn parts on and off (datasheet page 28, F0h 41h 00h 42h 12h 40h 1ph 02h nn xx F7h).

I'll give it a shot! Thanks for the quick reply :D

Are the "Note CV" inputs quantized in PROGRAMMABLE mode? Is there any way for them to behave similar to the CV inputs in VCO mode? Perhaps there is an input parameter list I am neglecting to observe? I should mention I am using the breakout expander to send the output to an external synthesizer. Thanks in advance!

No, there's no pitch bend support in Programmable mode.

Kind of an odd question but is it possible to swap the general midi chip out with something like a chip from a roland SC-88 or any other general midi chip? I kind of have an attachment to the sound of the older roland GM devices would be pretty interested if I was able to just swap the chips with a bit of soldering. I'm guessing it wouldn't be so easy though.

I’m thinking you might be able to get much the same effect by simply forwarding the MIDI from the GCV to whatever GM synth you desire. Other than having to convert the audio to modular levels, I would imagine everything—the algorithms, MIDI assignments—would be identical.

Yes, though the amount of MIDI data that the GCV can send to its internal chip is way more than you can send out of the MIDI port.

I'm not aware of any other GM chips on the market. If you know of any, let me know.

Saving Midi program and channel data

Post by SlagRalden » Thu Jul 30, 2020 2:10 pm

Having trouble figuring out how to save midi header data into type 1 (multi-track) midi files...

for example, when i download a midi file off the web and put it onto the GCV (free playback mode) it recognizes midi channel info, what instruments to play, the tempo etc but I can't seem to figure out how to do that in Reaper or Ableton... I can save multi track midi files and it saves the tempo but all the instruments are on midi channel one and set to grand piano 1...

anyone had success with this? any easy/ free software to aid in this?

IIRC Studio One deals with multi channel MIDI.

If it helps I wrote the attached script to merge MIDI files.

Thanks OS!

I figured it out in Reaper...... extremely NOT intuitive!

one other question... when playing a midi file in free playback mode is there a way to send the midi file's tempo out of the Output on the breakout?

if not consider this a Feature Request

You mean send MIDI clock out of the breakout?

I think he means the module’s L and R outputs.

It can't but that's a good suggestion.
