Hello, i have different issue - i've connected es-5 to es-9, and it flashed all jacks red once. After that i cannot see it anywhere in Mac OS i/o. No way to set it up as aggregate device or anything else.

It doesn't appear on the mac as a separate device. You send stuff to it using the dedicated pair of channels on the ES-9.

Sorry, might be stupid; but how do i setup a simple LFO for es-5 from Live?
I have the controller VST, i use es-9 and apollo twin in agregate device. ES-9 is ch1-16 i/o , apollo comes after it.

Unless the LFO is a square wave you won't be able to output it on an ES-5. The ES-5 does gates/clocks/triggers only.

Sorry for the possible noob questions but I've read the manuals,
searched for a comprehensive guide to how to do this but I haven't been able to find it yet.
I am trying to set up my ES9 to work with the ES5 (ESX-8CV will arrive tomorrow) but I don't get the individual gates from the ES5 to work.

The goal is to get midi tracks in Ableton to send gates from the ES5 to different sources in my modular set up.
Using both (Silent Way) ES5 Controller, and CV Tools within Ableton. (I think the VCV plugin doesn't work on my system, couldn't get it to show up within Ableton but an integrated version with VCV Rack is planned to be released soon I've read?)
I am on a Mac using the latest version of all related software and OS.

Ableton>ES9-ES5-ESX8CV>modular system
modular system>ES9-ES5-ESX8CV>Ableton
Any chance there is a comprehensive guide to how to get this up and running somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

sure I have and wil again but I am not using SW voice controller.
do I need to purchase this separately or is it by any chance included with the 3 modules I bought, it would be nice if the software is included with the hardware. (at least with the es9 / es8)

Silent Way is not included, but the parts of SW that drive the ES-5, ESX-8CV etc. don't require a licence to run.

The max/msp external and VCV encoders are also free.

Hi Os,
I bought your ES-9 several weeks and it works fine with Ableton CV Tools. Really fabulous!!
But I felt the lack of gates for my Eurorack, so I bought an ES-5.

From now on things getting hard. It took me a several hours on a Saturday afternoon to figure out how to bring the ES-5 to work with my Qad Drum. Yes, I did it ...

BUT: After 15 minutes it stops working! Took me some time to realize ..

Silent way 2.8.0 shows always an "unregistered" sign and after 15 Minutes I get the time out.
But as the manual states "Unlike most of the rest of the Silent Way plug-ins, the ES-5 Controller does not time out".

Yes, I installed iLOK allthough I didn't use it actively.

I only use SW ES-5 Controller with CV Tools, nothing else.
After loading the Ableton Project again, everything works as it should be - only for 15 minutes.

What can I do?

thanks Lars

Oh, and I am not able to update ES-9 to the actual firmware, which should be pretty straight forward, but it always ends up with " Searching Device". The ES-9 is there - ES-9 configurator reacts fine - and during the update process no other host like ableton was running.

I would guess you're using the 'Input To Gates' feature, which is the only part of the ES-5 Controller which does time out.

If you're running Windows, you may have to uninstall the driver before you update the ES-9 firmware.

What?!
Sorry, but that's not fair: the Silent Ways manual says there is no restriction and now I have to read that there is one?
Am I missing something?
Yes, I use "Input To Gates" ... It took me hours to realize that the time out affects these alltough it shouldn't.

So, I need to buy Silent Ways?

If you want it working immediately, yes.

I can see that the ES-5 Controller manual section doesn't mention this (the ES-4 Controller section does) and honestly I don't remember why I made it like this all those years ago. I agree it would be fair to make it completely unrestricted but that will take me a while to get round to changing.

I will buy Silent Ways as I think it's a good companion and I like your stuff. No worries ...
But I was just before a nervous breakdown yesterday, because I didn't realise the time out is not only indicated ... please correct the manual. ;-)
