Expert Sleepers ES-8 noise issue

Post by ASYX » Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:39 am

System components
Mac OSX 10.14.5 mojave
Ableton Live 10.1
RME babyface
Expert sleeper ES 8

i have managed to set up my ES 8 via Adat into an RME babyface
after struggling through the routing with totalmix and all
i have managed to service in and outputs from vcv rack as well as ableton

now the issue !! (°.°) !!

at intervals of 1 - 2 minutes i get certain behaviour
outputs 7+8 turn blue
( since its basically working i can re route the outputs to the inputs and monitor whats going on, i have used vcv rack scope and the audio out of my babyface for this )
it appears as indicated by the ES 8 already by the blue its an offset of some kind
but the story develops the offsets shifts to positive and turns purple moving upwards through the outputs now with 6+5+4+3 glowing red and outputting what sounds like a filter or pitch / fm sweep over some noise
at points also output 1+2 become affected

after some time ( like 30 sec to 1 minute this signals die out and everything functions normal for 1 minute if i am lucky )
at instances also my main out from the computer sounds like its passed through heavy bitreduction,.. this also happens periodically
and only when i use ES-8 via ADAT
USB worked fine ( but obviously ableton can only handle 1 soundcart so i need to connect them )
my babyface alone never did anything like that.

thoughts anybody :help:

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with my ES8. Is there a solution for this?

Thanks for any help!

Are you using the ES-8 over USB, or via ADAT only?

I use it only via ADAT with the ES8 as master. Somehow the strange behaviour only occurs when I power on the module after the RME Interface. If I power on the module before, it seems to work fine. Could it be a sync issue? But either way the sync status shown in the Fireface Settings seems to be ok.

The RME should be master in this setup.

Ok, that seams to solve it. I couldn't reproduce the strange behaviour. Thanks a lot for helping!
