ES8 & Mac problem

Post by Garz » Fri Feb 21, 2020 4:50 am

Hi! i´m very happy with my ES8, ES3,ES6 combo but i have a problem. When I turn on my system my mac recognize the es8 but it says that it has 0 inputs and 0 outpus or 0 inputs and 16 outputs or other combination of I/0. I have to change the clock source to internal clock and to adat clock a few
times to get the correct amount of inputs and outputs.. Then.. i have some occasional crushes of ableton because the ES8 looses the usb connection.. but this happens rarely. Anyone has this kind of problems?

I´m using a 2018 mac mini with Mojave and the ES8 is connected directly to the mac mini.(No usb hubs).

Try a different USB cable (make sure it's a USB 2.0 cable).

Check your modular case is providing enough power to the ES-8.

Thanks for your answer. I already tried different cables and regarding the power of the case, in modulargrid my case is consuming 1625mA(+12v) , 619mA(-12v) and 0mA(5v).
The especification of my psu power (Strong PWR from mdlr case) is up to 2A (+12v), 1.2A (-12v) and 1.5(5v) so i think there is no problem with the energy..

It would only take a few errors in the power specs, or occasional power spikes, to take 1625mA up to 2A. I would try it with a couple of power hungry modules removed from the case, just as a test.

I removed some modules and the power consume is less than 1000mA (+12v) but still has the same error. Then, I tryed with other computer and the ES8 works fine. This macbook has usb2.0 ports but the ports of my mac mini are usb3. Maybe is something related to this?

OK. Do you have the possibility of connecting the ES-8 to a different USB port on the mac?

Possibly. Perhaps a USB 2.0 hub would help in this case.

I tried with a usb hub but still the same.. I also has a RME Fireface400 and i use it with the ES8 as an aggregate device. I tried to un plug the RME but still the same.. If the ES8 works fine in other computer... who knows whats happenig :despair: Anyway... I´m very happy with my combo. Congrats for your amazing work and support.
