Dual Audio Playback Sample Organization

Post by explodingPSYCH » Wed Mar 04, 2020 7:46 pm

My goal is to use the Disting to load digital drum machine one shots (DMX, Lynn Drum, etc) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to organize the samples and playlists.

My first thought is to set up folders for useful pairs of drum types:
Kick+Snare
Open Hat+ Closed Hat
Low Tom+High Tom
Ride+Crash
Tamb+Clap
Perc1+Perc2
Etc

What would a playlist look like to set these up properly for something like keeping the Kicks on the first channel and Snares on the second?

I'm also curious about setting up choking for the hi hat pairs.

If you use I-8 you don't need to worry about the sample ordering, since you select each sample individually.

For I-7 you need them in pairs e.g.

kick1
snare1
kick2
snare2

You could do this in the playlist or you could simply name the files so an alphabetic sort puts them in that order naturally.

There's not currently any 'choke'. But bear in mind that if you have a 'choked' pair you're not really using dual playback, as only one sample is playing at a time, so maybe you can do what you need in one of the non-dual algorithms.

Ahh. Yeah, I-8 might be better for me. Then I can just put all the samples in one folder and give them short names.

A quick question I came across though. How is the envelop working here? it kind of sounds like it's only working on one of the two samples. Is it suppose to do only one or both, or...?

Thanks!

No, each sample has its own envelope.

But both envelopes are always the same values correct? It seems like there isn't a way to control their decays independently, right?

Correct, there's only one envelope setting.
