FH-2 Din in Clock with Elektron Cycles

Post by smurf » Sun Mar 15, 2020 7:51 am

Hi,
I have an Elektron Cycles attached to Din in of the FH-2 expander (using the midi trs adapter from out from the Cycles). I am trying to pass the clock out from the Cycles atm - but can't see the FH-2 receiving clock this way. If I connect the usb out from cycles to usb in on FH-2 the clock is transmitted. I tried attaching a keystep to the din in on the FH-2 expander but cant see any midi input at all - if I attach the keystep to the usb, I can see midi is coming in on the FH-2. I checked the coonections " pin 1 of the breakout's header (GT1) corresponds to pin 1 of the FH-2's header (GT3)" - and its all correct.
How can I pass clock in via Din in on the expander?
Thanks

The ribbon cable that connects the FH-2 to the breakout has two rows of 4 pins. Make sure you're using the same row at each end.

....I haven't attached a power cable to GT2 on the din expander.

You don't need one. Have you been able to test the DIN MIDI output of the Cycles with another MIDI device?

Should it just automatically pick up clock on the din in - do I need to set anything first? Clock from usb goes to output 7 already.

Yes, it should just work. Any incoming MIDI should appear at the bottom of the screen, clock or otherwise.

No, the ribbon cable is wrong. Pin 1 at the FH-2 end is the end nearest the power connector.

Hi
I'm confused -from the manual "the header pin-out is as follows(pin 1 is closest to the 'GT3' text)". As far as I can see - on the FH-2 the GT3 text is nearest the top pin....

Top pin on the FH-2 (near GT3 text) is connected to pin closest to to GT1 text (left when looking at back) on expander

So in the image the top pin is attached to the right pin (looking from back) of the expander. They are both opposite the red stripe of the ribbon....

Pin 1 on the expander is furthest from 'GT1'. The pin actually has a little '1' next to it.
