Just some praise to Tony Allgood :)

Post by Mandachuva » Thu Mar 05, 2020 10:04 am

Hello all,

First post here, actually nothing more than a shameless plug to Mr. Tony Allgood of Oakley Sound.

7 years after purchasing on Filtrex PCB, he's still answering my (somewhat silly) questions via nice, long and easy-to-understand e-mails. If support was like this all over the place... Can't imagine the world we'd be in.

Thanks, Mr. Allgood!

Yes indeed!

Not only excellent support, but excellent PCBs. My favorite to work on. And great documentation. And superb sounding!

His PCBs are incredibly well designed and the documentation is superb. Haven’t had a single bad build, which is good since I’m not the best trouble shooter, highly recommended for those starting DIY. You just feel warm and fuzzy after building one, a completed module exudes quality. I’ll look at it and think, yeah, I built that.

Also pot brackets and socket boards are Genious :hail:

Yeah, +1 to the praise!

/me built three Oakley projects (SRE330, ADR30 and Discrete Ladder Filter), all of which are just awesome. Add the outstanding support... Tony, you rock :tu: !
... why buy it for $100 when you can build it yourself for $150?

My favourite projects to build/work on out of the different “companies” I’ve built over the years. Mechanically thoughtfully designed and enjoyable to build, and to date I haven’t had to troubleshoot one when I first switched it on,which is so nice.

ive had a load of time to play recently, what with being furloughed, and again, tonys stuff is just superb. The filtrex i fixed up recentlly I use on everything now, sounds amazing on hats, bass samples, everything, kinda wish i had another! ive also finally got all the modules ive built finished working and calibrated, been a really good few months, and the modular also sounds incredible. and the tm3030 is still awesome.

just need to order some more front panels and finish up some more modules.

thanks Tony!

and yes, the documentation, design and tech support for muppets is superb too, by far the easiest and best sounding diy stuff ive tried. considering selling all the other pcbs ive accumulated over the years sitting in drawers...

I've not purchased or used any of Tony's products but I wanted to give him props on the analysis of (and fixes to) the Behringer Dual VCO I just read. Really a treat...such a technical, non-partisan breakdown of why that particular module has some bad ideas (and one good) in it.

Plus Behringer can probably benefit from Tony's analysis and tweaks to the module - someone else doing unpaid R&D, which perfectly fits their corporate MO. They should give Tony some money for these fixes...

Anyway, thanks - especially great for an intermediate synth tech/builder like me.

:agree:

He's a rare combination. Glad he's here!
Treat utility modules as stars instead of backup singers.
Treat power supplies like Rockstars instead of roadies!
Chase magic sound, not magic parts.
