It's my understanding that it's the ladder filter(s) from the 60s that are used to make the g-funk synth sounds - for example, Dr. Dre's tunes from the 90s. Would the Discrete Ladder Filter by Oakley Sound be suitable for recreating this type of sound?

Sure. It is based on the classic Moog filter and Dre used a lot of Minimoog IIRC so I'd imagine the filter would get you in that similar zone.

I'd say it's good for that - you'll want to experiment with the level going into the filter as the range from clean to saturated to a little overdriven makes a bif difference to the sound that comes out. It really is a strong sounding filter.
