i guess i should add the whole look of my eurorack modules is a huge EMS nod (or ripoff, if you're the sort of person who believes that stuff should only be available to people with huge quantities of spare cash, and by "huge quantities" i mean several orders of magnitude above what punk rockers like STG think are "huge quantities", and spend time on the internet complaining about people who make VCS3 clone PCBs until they capitulate to your complaints and withdraw all of their contributions from the online knowledgebase.)

i fully intend to make the knob cap colours match the P-L/LPF, because _they_ matched the Synthi 100, and they are both filters. if i don't follow the same colour conventions for Fc, Q, and amount then what's the point?

I just got the Sea Devils Filter (used). Holy wow! This thing is amazing.

Between this and my MegaOhm Delta VCF, I haven't even touched my Dotcom VSF. On to the Makato?

Yes, I agree, I think it is a totally awesome filter! Here is some shamless self promotion of me tweaking around on my Sea Devils and Mattson EG 8_)

So, yes, STG did a great job of implementing this YuSynth filter! Buy one here:

Or . . DIY one here!

I was already fully aware of the wonders of YuSynth. I was just overly excited because this single-space, unassuming, 3 knob filter was implemented so well!

JLR, your demo video convinced me I was correct to want this filter.

The quote on the side was what I first noticed when I unwrapped the bubble wrap. Very cool.

Just curious - is it possible to make this scream like the filter on the vcs3?
I uploaded a recording featuring this some time ago in another thread:

I'm sorry. I forgot to answer this.

I don't own a VCS3 so I can't really answer that.

There's an mp3 download on my website which explores a lot of different timbres with this thing. I would link it but I'm posting from my phone.

How much experience do you have with an original?

I've only played the vcs3 twice (for a couple of hours).
The mp3 in that link features the original machine.

Yeah, I've listened to your clip - it sounds amazing.
I have never tried anything musical with the vcs3, just been testing its character, temper, limits, etc...
To simplify my question: can your filter self oscillate, and if so, similar to my example?

i've listened to your MP3 but i can't figure out what exactly i'm hearing.

hopefully someday i'll be able to A/B the SDF against the VCS and make some analytical observations.

The screams at the beginning and end are the filter self resonating. I guess I just I turned up the response knob.

OK so the resonance is _louder_ than the input signal?

Yes. (BTW I run the vcs3 oscillators through the filter, nothing external. I recorded the line out)
It's so evil I never dared to turn it higher than about 2 o'clock. It really hurts.
The sound is quite lovely though.

Any self oscillating in the Sea Devil?

OK - might be a more useful approach 8_)
Thanks.

[EDIT]
I might add that I don't know if the synth was working 100% correctly.
