Looking for advice on what my starter setup may be missing

Post by wr0ng1 » Fri Jul 31, 2020 12:16 pm

Hello.

I recently took the plung into Eurorack having owned a Behring Neutron for a while and deciding I wanted to take things further.
To ease myself in gently, I got an Arturia Minibrute 2S and a Rackbrute 6U. I have bought myself a few modules to start off - my current setup is here:

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1254059

I got the expert sleepers ES-3 & ES-6 as I have an audio interface with unused ADAT channels. This will let me interface my setup with VCV rack which I think will be useful for fucntions like VCAs, EGs & LFOs, letting me focus the hardware more on modules which benefit from knob-tweaking.

I have 2 Disting Mk4s (on order), which I am hoping will cover a lot of ground and maybe help me to discover if there are any functions I used enough to warrant getting dedicated modules for.

In absence of knowing what your approach, goals or questions are relating to this I would just recommend replacing a full size clouds with a monsoon or typhoon variant. Better control over parameters without having to press buttons constantly will make the module more enjoyable to tweak.

seriously though, play with it till you find you cant do something, then buy a thing that fits the bill, if it doesnt, sell it and try again..

This is the best advice.

Also: get an oscilloscope

I'm hoping the oscilloscope in VCV rack will suffice.
As for purpose, I want something manual to mess about. 1 part effects loop vs 1 part ideas machine.
I'm thinking marbles + clouds + the distings has a lot of that covered.
