Modular Users in Edmonton (that's Alberta...)

Post by Doglien » Fri Sep 05, 2014 3:44 pm

Hey Folks, I was wondering if there was anyone on the forum based in Edmonton messing with modulars and ambient and avant-garde electronica etc.?

There is a small electronic music scene here, but coming from the UK it seems pretty barren.... Be great to collaborate.

[Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.... in case you were wondering].

How far are you from the Audities Foundation in Calgary?
I have always wanted to pay them a visit.

Calgary is about a 3 hour drive. I've contacted them to ask whether visits by appointment are encouraged; so I'll let you know!

Certainly looks like they have a fascinating range of instruments down there.

Sweet!

Looks like the Vancouver meeting is tbc right now... ;) If any Edmonton users wanted to get together, I have access to a small (60 seat) theatre auditorium.

I only ever knew one person into modulars in Edmonton in the 90's. A Serge freak by the name of Joe.

I guarantee some of the people associated with BEAMS have some:

It's definitely on the list. Most of my money's been tied up the past while in clearing up old debts back when I used to do contract work for a live marketing firm. Those were fun times, but I greatly prefer my current line of work since payday is every two weeks for certain ^_^ Also on that list of things to do is actually spend time with my Maschine, not to mention dust off my turntables and mixer.. *shifty eyes* Thankfully, a few of my (work) customers are playfully bugging me about getting back into everything.

Also, I spend too much money on computer stuff, but I'm 107th on HWBot for benchmarking, at least in Canada (194th in Rookie League)! I'd be higher, but I need to change out a few things in the rig first.. :P

I really should plug the modular back in again. My modest 20MU dotcom setup is fun to play with, but right now I don't really have any desk space to put it on. Suppose I should go to IKEA or something and pick up a cheapo low table or something to put it on :P Seriously hoping that next year I'll start buying more modules, and by the end of the year I'll triple the amount of patch cords that I have (my current total of 15 reliable cords is too small!)

Biggest thing has just been clearing up a bunch of... We'll call it noise in my head, as well as various loose ends. :P

I imagine wiggling is a great way to spend Edmonton winters. And with enough MU, you can heat your room too :cloud:

chorus7 - aha! I still remember looking a little perplexed when you were selling a bunch of classic gear to fund your Serge. It only took me a few more years to understand ;)

At this juncture I should point out that it is snowing heavily in Edmonton today.... :tu:

I'm relocating to Vancouver, definitely let me know if y'all put together a Vancouver meet. I can't believe it's already snowing in Edmonton, I was born there but haven't been back in about 25 years. Scary.

It has stopped snowing now: odds on it'll be 30 degrees and sweltering tomorrow (when I've put on my winter coat and boots...)
