What do you do once you've built your modular?

Anything modular synth related that is not format specific.

What do you do once you've built your modular?

Post by Mefistophelees » Fri Sep 18, 2015 4:57 pm

On Modular grid my system is now full. I have a bunch of DIY modules to build and a couple of modules to get yet but other than that it's done.

I can maybe get a couple more modules by moving less used things out but I've done that already a bit and there's not much to move out now.

I have spent the last few years researching different kinds of modules and new modules and had a great time putting it all together and trying them all out.

The thing is a lot of forums are really just talk of new gear. But I'm not one of these people who keep switching modules in and out all the time so that's pretty much it (well, apart from a few skiffs but I'm keeping them DIY only).

It's been a great journey but it's over. I am at the destination. What do I do now???

I got it to make music. Do I like, have to actually do that now?

I'll start to build a model railway system
No, seriously, then there will be no excuse not to delve into learning to make better music. I think.

If you haven't been making music with it, now would be a good time. :hihi:

You may find your idea of the journey being over was premature...

Yes, make music with it! Record albums, do live performances, post audio to Soundcloud and video to YouTube/Vimeo etc etc :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Sounds like it's time to change format.

Get a couple bottles of a nice red wine and have your friends over to stand around gazing at it and listen to them say insightful things.

"Finished" building your modular? Muahahahahs

Srsly -nows the time to play with it! Explore it in its full glory. Then why not perform? Invite others with modulars over to "jack in"

The list is as endless as your imagination!

Nice! For me it was to add another format!

I finally felt like I was pretty well rounded out on Euro.

I started a 5U .

It has been interesting the second time around.

I am subbing in pieces from the Euro as I get it going.

It is also helping me fine tune the Euro.

There is a lot of DIY options as well which would suit you.

Make Music of course but to satisfy that tinker, hobbist (if thats your thing) the only option is to add a format!
Current sale stuff:
Need to get on it

Searching for:
Enlightenment and a few more compressors

I finished my modular and have been creating melodic sequences and just learning the heck out of it. Thr next step is to use it for basic tracks/fancy click track and adding guitars, bass, drums and vocals. Also, jamming with other out there musicians. So much to do. The modular my long term grow old making music plan.

Hit record before you start patching. Most of us learn through repetition. Edit out the 30minutes of nothing before you sort out the VCA and Out and no one will notice :hihi: :hihi:

disassemble it in to each component part, repackage them all into there original containers, melt down all the alu panels and return everything from whence it came, the earth...

or put it on a funeral barge and push it out to sea, once it's out past the breakers light a single flaming arrow and watch it burn as the sun sets

or yeah make music, complete a record like you did the modular!

I am also just about done. I have 7 rows of 5U and decided I'm pretty good. I make music with mine, you should with yours. My next projects will be:
1) finishing up my backlog of modules that don't work
2) get started with 500 series compressers, preamps, and eqs
3) secret (not so secret) project.

being modular means you can keep re-arranging your layouts, rotating new and old modules into and out of your system however and whenever you wish.

i find it that it is very nice to be able to use one layout for a few weeks, record some sounds, re-arrange the system for another few weeks, record some more sounds, then go back to the way i had things previously, etc.

sometimes, though, i think it's equally nice to not record anything (and just listen and watch).

anyways, congrats on your system having become full, Mefistophelees!

Get yourself into the video synthesis market... buy 204 HP and realize you will probably never live long enough to fill it video modules.

or as Strettara say's Autumn/winter is awesome for cycling. Just like spring/summer...

Of course you could do my kind of cycling too... Might cause your modular to grow a bit slower and give you a reason to wear dead animals. Oh better be careful might stir the mice.
