What do you do once you've built your modular?

Anything modular synth related that is not format specific.

If you don't have a cat, get a cat.

If you already have a cat, get another cat.

To paraphrase Sheldon Cooper: It's MU or No U

Isn't the answer in the question? You've enjoyed the journey, so it's now time to change the destination. And enjoy the next journey?

Where have I seen you before?
Same place you saw me, I expect.
I've got a good face for memories.

numan7 wrote:being modular means you can keep re-arranging your layouts, rotating new and old modules into and out of your system however and whenever you wish.

i find it that it is very nice to be able to use one layout for a few weeks, record some sounds, re-arrange the system for another few weeks, record some more sounds, then go back to the way i had things previously, etc.

sometimes, though, i think it's equally nice to not record anything (and just listen and watch).

Regrouping modules as I go through cycles of learning them and using them differently is very satisfying for me as well.
Sometimes one new addition sets of a whole rework for me.

I don't quite understand this..I started making music with my modular when I had three modules - I didn't even have a VCO because that wasn't in stock, but I found that modular LFOs go into the audio.

I stopped building several years ago.

The stated journey is completely arbitrary and irrelevant. That's a bit nasty, but true. Case size is arbitrary, and the goal of completing it is irrelevant to having a modular, which is to make noise/sound/music.

Throw yourself into isolation with a hardware recording device and your modular. I suggest a cabin in the woods. NO TV OR INTERNET OR CELLPHONE. Just a landline for emergencies(electrical shock/starvation?)....I guess bring some food and water and drugs and a cat....

I LOL'd because this is exactly what I'm doing at the moment.

I would say also to learn all of your modules inside out! You may discover that you can do more with less, get rid of some modules, then resume building...

Some truly excellent answers here :sb:

I was kind of joking but I've spent that long planning and building it, that it seems like the end of an era.
I don't quite understand this..I started making music with my modular when I had three modules
I had slowed right down playing music while building it that I haven't completed a track in quite some time. I'm not quite sure why but I know I'm not the only person to experience this.

So back to making music for me. :bananaguitar:
Yes, make music with it! Record albums, do live performances, post audio to Soundcloud and video to YouTube/Vimeo etc etc
I've wanted to record an album for a long time, and do videos...
Sounds like it's time to change format.
I've no more room left!
60U of Euro is quite big.
........or become a professional Muff Wiggler....... lol
Now there's an answer :booty:

If you don't have a cat, get a cat.

If you already have a cat, get another cat.
I wish I had a cat.

Finish those DIYs
Calibrate the VCOs
Hunt down and fix that little bit of noise
Reorganize your patchcords
Rearrange the workspace to get a bit of room
Fix the DIYs
Hunt down and fix that littler bit of noise
Build another case that fits in that bit of room
Books and tutorials on modular synthesis at http://peterelsea.com
Patch responsibly.

Yeah, or to downsize.
My second ever track using Mutable Instruments Rings. Here paired with Make Noise 0-coast and Arturia DrumBrute and Korg Minilogue. A rather bittersweet piece. ❤️
