I like the card system idea. Quite a genius solution but those damn wires OMFG would kill me. :deadbanana:

Wow
Really does look like an ancestor of the Dewanatron instruments.

I think atimbra and you got it right. In this 30 second YouTube video, the first thing that happens is the turning of the forementioned key.

Link->Dewanatron Swarmatron - THX Sound Effect

From Big City Music:
"The Swarmatron is a hand-built instrument that was introduced at NAMM in January 2010. As of March 2016, 83 Swarmatrons have been produced."

So it's possible this was DIY, an early prototype by Brian and/or Leon Dewan, or even produced for sale.

There is a contact page on www.dewanatron.com , so that's a likely first start.

Also, an interview with Leon Dewan describing his Hymnotron, and that the modern instruments he makes deliberately look old.

I mean, it looks like it was made in the early 70's. So...

even if they didn't build it, this synth occupies a realm which is similar to the one the dewan's inhabit. they may see something, or have a lead to someone from whom they take inspiration who may know something, or know a seller of similar parts... it's an easy potential tip. so..

Brian and/or Leon Dewan looks to certainly have a hand in it, but truth be told it seems there were quite a few people more doing this sorta thing in the radio shack had electronics kinda days... of course this looks to be a little more advanced than that and certainly not this persons first build. I'm thinking this is maybe a student project. :despair:

Either way it's neat and I'm not sure if I would even restore it. It's almost folk artish at this point in about 20 years who knows? Then again this could all be shit and the world could be on fire, but I have a sneaking suspicion everything will be just fine. We will continue evolving our technology while down grounding our social skills to primates on cell phones in cars driven for us... ALL because we will be to lazy and apathetic to everything to bother with such a menial task as driving or looking for parts to build things.

The idea for self-driving cars is to reduce road fatalities.

As far as the "unknown synth" I'd sure like to hear a
at some point in time.

Thanks for the interest. I have been super busy trying to finish my house remodel and have not had much time for this project. I have not tried to power it up yet. I wanted to get a few opinions on the power supply condition and design before letting out any smoke. My plan is to carry it to the upcoming synth meet in Atlanta on June 3 2018. Hopefully I can meet a few people there and get some advice and insight on how to proceed.

That's great, but why not send an email to that contact page on www.dewanatron.com? That could yield a lot of information for little effort...

As someone that has no understanding of electronics, it kind of reminded me of the Raymond Scott electronium

There’s a thread on it here: viewtopic.php?t=199905&highlight=

From the Dewantatron Electronic Music web page:

If you want to send an e-mail to Dewanatron, here's how. Write what you have to say and e-mail it to: info@dewanatron.com. You can use the same address to sign up for the Dewanatron e-mail list and find out about concerts and appearances.

How 'bout it Astrolabe23?

Man, this is so cool. You absolutely gotta upload some samples when you get it working. Would love to play with them. This is great buy.
