Chords creation and modulation with CV Tools/VCV Rack

Post by armas_hki » Tue Jan 21, 2020 11:30 am

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding creating chords with CV Tools (from Ableton) and ES-8. Is there some way to create and modulate chords with this combination and four oscillators? I am also liking the idea of ACL Sinfonion but is too expensive so maybe there is some way to recreate part of it with other modules and CV Tools?

The problem is that as you move through a chord progression you inevitably change chord quality ( major to minor and vice versa)

But even if you transpose the route note of your other sequencers then they will not do the min/maj change..

This may or may not be important to you ...

If it is, then sinfonion is effectively the only solution... and for what it is, it is not really that expensive (8 quantisers, an arpeggiator, a chord progression sequencer, a 4 way precision adder) plus performance controls

The main reason for the development of the sinfonion was that to do this was almost impossible with simpler building blocks

And it’s made in a first world country where the people who make it get a proper living wage

So start saving ... for when you can find actually one in stock somewhere...

Even the list of basic modules that might get you close is more or less the same price , probably bigger and not as fully functioned

If it’s not important then you should be able to patch something up in vcvrack which will get you some of the way there

Precision adders, an arpeggiator , quantisers and a few sequencer channels should get you some or most of the way there
