what's the longest you've had a finished synth for?

Anything modular synth related that is not format specific.

what's the longest you've had a finished synth for?

Post by vqlk » Mon Jul 06, 2020 10:29 pm

lots of people seem to post up "i finished my _u" threads... i am finished now, bar one last module [midi] if i so choose. i assume lots of people think they've finished, but haven't -- so what is the longest you've gone in modular without changing it?

Like 9 months. But I didn’t really play it in that time.
My current one is 5 months old with no plans of changes.

Trispectrum fed from a custom Turing machine and out to a compact clouds knockoff. With this setup I can either 'play along' in tempo, or switch the clock signal to random and let it fill the background all by itself. I have not changed this box for over a year, so I must like something about it :tu:
I probably will refinish the end silver plates to powdercoated black and keep it this way!

I built the system shown in my avatar in 1975. I retired the sequencers in 83 or so and the rest went to storage in 94. It's currently in the garage and needs a bit of work, but I still have it. The machine that has been in the longest continuous use was built in 1981. It is (mostly) two eMu voice cards in Serge boats.

Well I've never sold a module and I am building it up over years. It's always finished.

I've had my 7-module + keyboard Aries system since '75. I definitely won't be making any additions to that old thing. (I mean, I'd love to, but not at today's prices.)

I made it nearly a year without changing anything, but then I started thinking about how to rotate several uninstalled modules into the setup. In the midst of changing stuff around, I felt like re-planning cases and moving things around was wasting time I could have used to make music.

This summer I downsized a euro case and sold off the remainders to (hopefully) better focus on a completed instrument.

This Bug system has been stable now for 2 years? Or pretty close.
I'm looking for nothing at this moment in time

Probably about 6 months. I'm getting close to being 'finished' again though - I have one more module to get, and maybe swap one LFO for another, then... I'm not really sure what else I'd want to add.

But I'm sure I'll figure out something :D

I had my system finished for six months too! It felt really nice. Then I got a complex vco and the balance was off

But now I have tried around a bit and I think it might be finished soon again !

it was 13 months ago i put a doepfer 181 in my case. bad luck i suppose, i just bought a noisering to take its spot (and that of my 196, going back to a prime number of modules in my case feels far more comforting than i oughta admit)
