I wonder if anyone has ever worked out any interesting "Modz" for that lower left corner...

I've having calibration issues with my CVPal.

I'll calibrate and it'll work fine, then after a couple days there's voltage drop across the keyboard and I end up having to tune everything up - a few cents on the lower end of the range and about 30 cents at the upper end.

Is my calibration getting lost? Or could there be something interfering with it?

picked up a used CVpal the other day and hooked it up last night. I don't work with MIDI ever so it took me the better part of an hour to get Patterning app set with the proper MIDI channels. I primarily want to use it in channel 10 or 11 mode to send drum gates/triggers but I had some trouble setting the appropriate note values and therefore couldn't get anything to output. I did manage to get it set up in channel 1 mode so I could use 2 gates which was a ton of fun... just want to figure out how to get all 4 going.

Can anyone verify which specific notes are needed for modes 10 & 11? From the manual:

OUT 1: BD (note 36) trigger
OUT 2: SD (note 38) trigger
GATE 1: SD2 (note 40) trigger
GATE 2: CHH (note 46) trigger

Had to look up what the "GM drum map" was but it looks like note 36 is C1, 38 is D1, 40 is E1, and 46 is A#1 ... which I tried and did not work. But then I notice farther down the manual it mentions C3 being MIDI note 48 whereas on the GM drum map C3 is MIDI note 60 :hmm:

Does anyone have the correct note values for 36, 38, 40, and 46? It would be so much easier if I could input the numbers into Patterning but it goes by the scale values.
Thanks for your help

edit: this is the gm drum map I'm referencing

The General MIDI standard specifies A4 = 440Hz as note 69. That would make C4 note 60. Some manufacturers specify C3 as note 60 but that would leave a lot of unused MIDI notes at the bottom of the range, probably not what the committee intended.

Has anyone tested this thing with Windows 10 to see if latency is improved?

i'd been thinking about making some boxes/cases that fit - won't be exactly the same as that, anyone else interested?

i have 10 colours of acrylic piled up so can offer a choice of colours

I can only say i'm more than happy with Win10 and CVpal. Never did any measurements and don't intend to so in the future as i generally don't care about these things as long as they don't get in the way...but it FEELS pretty responsive to me.

Never used it with Win7/8, so i can't comment on that.

made these 3 cases on friday, each has a base the same colour, the cream and transparent ones have the protective film on still, the engraving is very crisp underneath, similar to the red one.

once you've cleaned the dust off you can infill the graphics with acrylic paint or a sharpie like falafalbiels does - then clean off the excess with alcohol, looks very slick.

i wanted to address the chronic lack of golf cart imagery on synth equipment finally.

They're this type:

Image

Hexagonal brass stand off spacers, 10mm long with M3 3mm Male & Female threads. The hex bit is 10mm, screwthread adds about the same again.

There are black nylon M3 washers top and bottom and those give you about 1mm clearance between the top of the USB socket and the top acrylic panel.

It's a tight fit without the washers, probably easier to get some slightly longer stand offs. I was just using what I had laying around :hihi:

I don't know if anyone noticed, but Synthrotek is selling the Sound Study Modular Midi 2 CV (kits, PCB and assembled), which is a off-shoot of the CVPal.

Check it out!

Very good question. I'll check tomorrow. Worst thing that could happen is that I'll have to set up a procedure to make sure each unit is flashed with different USB identification strings. You'll have a CVAmigo, a CVPote and a CVMitra.
Has this ever been answered or has someone tried multiple CVpals simultaneously?

I use two CVpals on a Linux-based single-board computer through a hub. No problems there.

is it possible to add modes to the CVPal?
I would love a mode where all 4 jacks are independent pitch cv outputs.
Also would love one that's 4 lfo's. I know they'd only be 0-4v unipolar but that can be easily remedied with offset/attenuation/rectification.

The DAC has only two analog outputs, which drive the first two jacks. The other two jacks are driven by digital outputs from the microcontroller. So a modified firmware could use the third and fourth jacks for triggers or gates, or I guess square wave LFOs, but they can't be pitch CVs or smooth-waveform LFOs.

Long shot: I'm looking for a CVPal panel. I have the pcb, but need a panel to stick it in my rack. UK/Europe preferably.

I'd like to consider a CV pal for two voice operation, but I'm sceptical because of the whole latency thing. I'm on windows 7 ultimate.
I wonder, is there a way to mod this in order to receive midi data through the usual 3 pin midi interface? I can sure fit a 3.5mm stereo jack there. Would that improve latency at all? I can figure out ways to power it properly from my rack, but my skills at coding are quite basic.
