Bionic Lester mkIII - nice feature request

Post by Schroeder » Tue Jan 21, 2020 11:40 am

I asked Scott through the IME Facebook page about a feature that I think would be awesome to have in the new BLmk3.

What I'm asking is that one of the three assignable CV input could be setted to respond to v/oct when the filter is in Comb filter mode and then used as a tuned voice. Basically control the delay time of the comb in a musical way, like a Karplus Strong algorithm. In that case, one could use the second filter in lopass mode and in a feedback configuration with external patching and build a proper Karplus-Strong voice. Then you could excite the comb by sending gate/trigger messages in the comb filter input and also use the gain/overdrive control in the feedback loop of the second filter. That would be sick.
What do you guys think?
If there is some interest showing in this topic maybe this solution could be taken in consideration for a future fw update.

Cheers!

Yes, that would be great! I tried to tune a CV between the source and the input attenuator shortly after getting my BLIII - but with not much success .

Though I am not sure if it is possible at all to get a decent tuning in the first place because how the filter knob is interpolated.

I already gave up getting exactly the comb I am looking for.

Finally got an answer from IME:

"Unfortunately the frequency law of the filter is not pure linear or expo, it is selected to provide a good "feel". The input is also not calibrated for precision"

Well, I've tried, you never know :hihi:

You might be able to do this using Silent Way from Expert Sleepers.
