This has sent me down the Relabi rabbit hole. If anyone is interested, here's Berndt's original essay from 2009: http://www.johnberndt.org/relabi/Relabi_essay.htm. There are some audio examples linked from near the bottom of the page.

I wonder whether Autechre are aware of Relabi? Their rhythmic structures in some pieces seem pretty Relabi-esque to me.

I'm also interested in how the resulting Relabi wave differs from, say, that produced by a subtly CV'ed chaos module (repetition with variation).

Not quite rhythms, more like irregular/shuffled clocks IIUC.

I can't decide yet on whether I love the idea more than I hate that ADDAC has found a way to make flip switches menu-divey...

These are made using custom software I developed with a friend + live performers; but the last year I have been using this principle a lot in Eurorack modular pieces too.

So, imagine my surprise after working on this stuff for a long time that there is a module that encapsulates it... extremely nice!

kinda sounds like a window comparator with built in LFOs (but with more overall tweakability ie, adjustable gate lengths)? perhaps the Joranalogue Compare 2 videos by divkid would give some ideas about what to do with this.

There's a very very strong sense of the underlying beat in Autechre, which is part of their charm. I honestly don't think they're very relabi oriented.

Been waiting for this module to materialize!
If you read on what the module offers, there's a lot of things going in, especially with incoming signals and the Pause, Trigger, options etc. It should cover a lot of ground. Of course there's comparators involved, but some of the options available I wouldn't be able to pull off with conventional means (I own a lot of comparators!). This is going to be so much fun!

Here is a first attempt to tame the Relabi. The 4 gate outputs are driving 4 envelopes sent to 4 harmonics of a Verbos HO. The sines output of the HO is sent to input 1 of the Triple bandpass filter. The square output sent to input 2. The v/Oct of the HO is receiving the relabi wave attenuated and quantized. The Relabi and the Triple BPF are modulated by lfos. The play mode of the relabi is changed by hand. Some stereo image and reverb added in DAW :

As I can say it that module sounds really amazing, patterns are organic and musical, relabi wave + them are so cool to create evolving complex and interesting patterns. And the fun really begin when you modulate parameters...
