audiorate modulation examples:

Modulations1
the pointy diamand shapes are the result of audiorate modulation with the Triple CV Comparator. The Comparator is modulating the -G.
(a lot of other stuff is internally patched with the 3Trins patchbay)

Modulations2:
same patch, lfo's set to saw, changed color settings and other cv routing

Modulations3:
Comparator is controlling -R and is controlled by Gout , Gin and LFO1 (and audiorate bias that acts as a 3rd lfo) Funky colors!

Love those Demo's - fantastic module to add to the 3trins!
Brilliant Job, can't wait to use it.

Would this be a good choice to pair up with the LZX Sensory Translator? I'm getting my 3TrinsRGB-1c kit in the mail soon and I'm looking for a good module that will turn my audio output from a multi into 3 CV signals to modulate RGB. How does this compare to feeding signals directly into the 3TrinsRGB-1c color inputs? I'm a complete noob when it comes to video synthesis so sorry if the question is too broad.

Looks like a great project.
I'm sorry I missed it.
If anyone has a spare module or PCB/kit they wanna sell shoot me a message.
Cheers J :guinness:

if the LZX Sensory Translator can output voltages from 0v to 10v it will work.
(the cv comparator scales 10v down to 3v , which it what the 3trins patchbay needs) (5v should work as well, or even 3v. you will need to modify some elements on the pcb)

I think i recall there is a jumper on the back of this LZX module to change between 0-1v range to 0-10v range. -- correct me if i'm wrong!!

Wait... So... Can I hit the comparator inputs with 0-10 V without damaging the 3trins? Please pardon my ignorance. I've been only using the 3trins patch points for the comparator inputs... And then using other CV sources to hit the bias jacks.

I understand that the LZX Sensory Translator may not supply 0-10 V (altho I believe on a FB thread, Lars said it would if you cranked the gain on the module).... however... this video is an example in which the bias of one of the comparator channels is being modulated by an Envelope follower on the ADDAC Wav Player (v1). This might give you an idea how cool the Sensory Translator could be by supplying more envelopes for different frequency ranges.

Cheers

My demo (nothing but 'Trins and comparator

Post by drumasaurusrex » Wed Aug 10, 2016 8:33 pm

Patch connections were loose to the comparator, so the effect blinks on and off throughout the video. In the end, I kind of like that about this video for a demo's sake. You see how a simple 3Trins Patch underlies the nice patterns you get by adding the comparator circuit. No video input or outside modulation was used.

the inputs / outputs of the comparator are only to be used with the patchbay of the 3Trins!!
I don't recommend other use, which might damage the 3trins or your modular!

the cv inputs next to the jacks can handle 0 to 10v modulations at maximum.
these voltages get scaled to 0-3v.

any negative voltages get cut off. (halfwave rectified)

I like the video's! psychedelic :sb:

if anyone want to mod the pcb for use with systems other than eurorack:

These are the resistor pairs that form the voltage divider:
(1 voltage divider for each comparator on the pcb)

comparator1: R17, R18
comparator2: R19, R20
comparator3: R21, R22

for 10v the pair is 100k + 47k

You can use this to calculate the output:
http://www.ohmslawcalculator.com/voltag ... calculator

the maximum voltage should be 3.3v (I used 3.2v )

Yeah. It is primarily a WAV player, and there is an Envelope Follwer CV output. Newer models may have different features, I am not sure. I have a really early model I got off ebay a few years back. It had some issues and I sent it to Andre at ADDAC and he fixed it up (super nice, btw) – he also informed me that the #13 written on it is literally the number in the first run.

Cool !
I have a early model too. Not sure of its serial number.
I'll def try it out when I build the comparator.
Thanks again for posting the great video. :yay:

Despite being pretty discouraged by the SOLD OUT sign in the title, I still dare ask if anybody has a spare compator kit or build. Thank you so much.

I have now 3 people who want one. If that number reaches 5, I'll do a new run (10 pcb's)

I have one build module left by the way, pm me if you are interested

OK

I'm doing a new small run of 20 pcb's / kits / build modules

pm if you want one, i'll make a new list in the first post!

if anyone has remarks on the next version (updates / functions / layout)
feel free to post 'm here!

i'm fixing the small error in the pot3 placement
