Listening to Shadow, Thief of Sun today and remembering what a beautiful, brilliant album that is and what a great group this is.

thanks for reminding me of that album, playing it right now and yes it's excellent.

garista and loh land are among my favourites.

Shadow, thief of the sun and shouting at the ground are favored by me!
Great music for long drives.

Has anybody written anything of substance (or not) about them?

I just received this book today and there are 6-7 mentions/paragraphs about them:

I have not even cracked the Assimilate book yet, but checked the Index for you.

Here's something I wrote about this seminal group...

Scheduled to play at the AV Festival at Newcastle upon the Tyne in the UK, the legendary electro-exploratory group Zoviet*France is in dire need of re-evaluation. Arguably the four albums pictured above represent some of their best work ranging from faux tribal percussion work-outs and blurred ghost voices to loopy ambient mirages with cut and paste noise assaults woven throughout.

The titles seem to reflect today’s socio-political environment in spite of their 1986-87 productions, a glimpse into our present/future populated by Misfits, Loony Tunes and Squalid Criminals (think Donald J. Trump), Assault and Mirage (the Republican Party AND DJT), and certainly A Flock of Rotations(just about everyone’s inability to move forward and Trump’s absolute need to move backwards culturally).

If you can find these beautiful digi-packs housing artfully enigmatic marks and scribbles, allow yourself the “Charm, Ceremony, Chance and Prophecy” this series of Zoviet*France releases signals with a sonorous poetry that is expressively timeless.

Not zoviet france themselves but related...

I always enjoyed From Labrador to Madagascar by Dead Voices on Air. Can't find a stream anywhere unfortunately. Cool album though.

Thanks, pal. I didn’t know about that album. I’m investigating.
