Library Music

Post by vrfats » Fri Nov 15, 2019 7:21 am

Just starting to explore the world of library music. Listened to these two compilations tonight: & and have hears some other really great records recently. Have really enjoyed most of what I've heard. Where to go from here? Anyone have any favorites?

Lots of the British stuff from KPM and Bruton can be heard on YouTube. Look for David Lindup, Syd Dale, Alan Hawkshaw, Francis Monkman, Brian Bennett, Alan Parker, Keith Mansfield, to name a few.

If you don't mind fighting a running battle with popups, the frustration of dead links and some really slow download speeds, you could check this resource -

Library music in an endless source of fascination and inspiration to me, to the detriment of my wallet as I can't help buying the records! The Italian stuff is particularly interesting to me at the moment, and luckily there are many re-issue labels now, so you can actually hear things, labels like:

Intervallo: https://www.discogs.com/label/895331-Intervallo
Sonor Music Editions: https://www.discogs.com/label/604915-So ... c-Editions
Trunk records: https://www.discogs.com/label/22266-Trunk-Records
Cinedelic: https://www.discogs.com/label/43770-Cinedelic-Records
Roundtable: https://www.discogs.com/label/346456-The-Roundtable

Are all worth a look, this one is stunning:

And as tim gueguen says, a lot on youtube too...

Library music in an endless source of fascination and inspiration to me, to the detriment of my wallet
The dawn of my interest in library music partly precipitated the end of my vinyl collection. I quickly realised that it would be torture trying to find the records I wanted and I would probably not be able to afford all the records I wanted even if I found them. This was all before the re-issue of vinyl became commonplace again. I have a friend who still collects library vinyl and he easily spends on records what I spend on music gear. So jealous though, he has some beautiful records. I have to mostly make do with mp3 vinyl rips :deadbanana:

This is great. Thanks for all the links.

A local record shop had a bunch of library in the second hand bins a few years ago and I picked up a few. The bug quickly left me when I realised I had found yet another hole to throw all my money into though!

Thank you. Working my way through these recommendations now. Youtube links and specific albums appreciated. Digging the Egisto Macchi. Cool that he was a member of Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza along with Ennio Morricone.

Bruton, KPM, Coloursound are definitely crucial libraries to look into.

I'd also recommend checking out Ghost Box Records for some contemporary artists throwing back to some classic library sounds. Check out The Advisory Circle, Belbury Poly, The Focus Group...

Many years ago, I was given a library ripoff of Giorgio Moroder's Cat People soundtrack. Interesting if only as an exercise in legal stealing. I wish I could remember who made it.

Yes... all this stuff is really good! Egisto Macchi is one of my favorites. If you like that he was in a group called Gruppo D'Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza also with Ennio Morricone which is pretty cool. There is a lot of electronicy library stuff too.
I could go on for days about this stuff... seems like it is all that I buy these days and soundtracks too... there are plenty of good soundtracks that you might like too.

Alessandro alessandroni is a good one too! Also know as the whistler from all the westerns. Pretty interesting.

Cool! I’m glad you’re into it. I definitely lean more towards the funky stuff! Partly why I wanted to take bass lessons. Here’s some more good stuff

That reminds me of Edda Dell’Orso. Whatever erotic stuff she seemed to always be doing with people! There was something I was thinking of with her and ennio morricone but I can’t find it.

I think my post disappeared about the beach boys... I don’t know if I would call that good but I guess its debatable. I wouldn’t call it library music though but yes... Edda del’orso. Good stuff
